For several months now, I've had a weird popping noise on passenger side of cab. I cleaned and lubed all the weather stripping, and no help. The other day it started on my side. I pushed on window and door, no help. I came to a construction area, and had to stop, I rolled down the window and moved the mirror back and forth on the fold back pivot, and lo and behold, that was it. The next rest area, I stopped and moved the pass. side mirror back and forth, just a couple inches, and no more popping. It sounded like hail hitting on the windshield. If it does it again, I will try spraying some silicone on the pivot point. Hope this helps some of you.

I had been thinking of posting about the same noise! Sounds just like a rock hitting the windshield.

I couldn't figure out why it happened sometimes when there were no other vehicles around. The other day, I was backing into a parking spot on a deserted back street when it did it, so I figured it was heat related (the sun was shining very brightly).

Now I'll have to go move my mirrors back and forth to see if it stops.

Thanks!

Let us know if it helps yours. It never made the noise very much till I folded them out to tow, those big elephant ears gave the wind more to work on. I think the plastic where it touches on the arms takes a set, and when the wind works on them, they make the popping sound.

I had the same thing on the drivers side, I used graphite lub.

Yogi, did you ever get an air seat? If so, how does it work.

The day after I posted in this thread I moved both mirrors back and forth 3 or 4 times. Haven't heard the noise since.

Thanks Larry!

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you EB, just got home from a trip. I haven't got the air seat yet, they are making a mt. for the 2nd gens. first, the first mt. the received would not work, will be at least a mo. before they get the 3rd gens. done, will let you know.

I'll have to try the graphite lube, where did you put it?

Glad it worked Bob.

fraserrj, I don't have to turn my radio up, its real quiet in my trk.

Yogi, I put in the hinge joint you were talking about, where the mirror folds flat back against the cab. I used some agricultural graphite, the kind they use in planter boxes. Messy to use but it works.
