Belt Tensioner/Idler pulley problem

I think I'm loosing my bearing again in my belt tensioner idler out front. I know this section is for 6BT but I thought because there are some many people here that I might find someone with experience regarding this subject.

My 4BT setup is really custom out front since I added a Sanden compressor and the ford vacuum pump on teh passenger side. I have tried shims here and there to stop the tensioner from dancing at idle but still have about a 1/4" bounce movement at 800 RPM. I was thinking of adding a grease verk to the bearing. Anyone tried that?

To me it sounds like something is out of line and I can't believe adding grease will stop it from bouncing.

Something else is going on there.

I agree it's slightly out of alighnment but i have not been able to clear it up any better than where ist's at now. I don't expect the grease to dampen out the bouncing. I want to extend the life of the bearings. They are starting to chirp.

I have never seen a tensioner NOT bounce. They all seem to bounce. I mean really bounce.



I have two trucks and 19 buses with the Cummins. They bounce. I have often wondered if this causes wear..... Yep. They wear. I replace them all the time. Have them blow apart w/o notice. When they go on the bus, the belt takes out the ($800. 00) electric fan clutch.

$800 Dollars? Holly canolies Batman. They must be diamond studded and gold plated. Have any idea how many miles you get out of them typically?

No. probably a round 60/80 thousand. Most buses run 10/13 thousand per year.



I had one go just AFTER it was one year old. I replace them when I do the front crank seal/new vibration damper etc. etc.

Mine bounce a little bit- more like a vibration than a bounce.
