I have a 98 12 valve, I am wanting to remove my belt tensioner. The service manual says there is a bolt to remove. From the from of the engine I see no bolt that is lined up with the center of the tensioner, there is a hole there with a bolt or something inside, no bolt head, I feel around with a small screwdriver that goes in a half and inch or so and hits something. On the back side of the tensioner is a roundish I dont know what, if its a nut or what, so is this what it suppose to be like or did the bolt break off and how do I take it off.

Thanks,

Gary

The bolt that holds the tensioner assy. on shouild be visible in the center of the spring mechanism at upper part of (center) of tensioner and should be accesable to loosen with a socket or box wrench, if bolt broken off I would thing the tensioner would just slide off, the bolt that holds the pulley on the tensioner is installed from the back side. bg

I changed one on a newer machine the other day and it had an allen head holding it. New to me, I had always seen a regular bolt. Maybe it's been replaced before and has one of those?
