The pipe upgrade is next. Between the MBRP, Bully Dog, Silverline, ATS, Magnaflow, Flowpro, Diesel Pro etc. etc. what is the best one to get? I don't want it to sound like a dump truck just want to lower EGTs and upgrade the sound a little. It looks like you can get the T409 SS, MBRP 4" with 5" tip for about $500 at usdieseleparts.com Any suggestions?

Good question... . I've wondered the same, for the same reasons. Getting ready to head to florida with the 5er. "Needing" exhaust, BHAF & Edge EZ. Will wait for the results :-laf

I got mine from Rip Rook in Oregon, it has a dimond eye muffler and I am very pleased with it. No drone, sounds great and when you really hammer down sounds even better. I pull a 5er too sounds great, also very easy to install.

Do a search. I believe that Rips is the best value out there, and you rareley ever hear of an unsatisfied customer.

Rips all the way, 100%. Do a search and I think you will agree.

Just as Mark Craig posted above, go to his web site and purchase through him. I run the MBRP system and it is awesome, plus you will not find a nicer bunch of guys that also will take care of you after the sale.

And if you really want a good sounding exhaust order the straight pipe, just dont install the muffler that comes with the kit. Mine sounds like a big rig now :-laf

I purchased the MBRP 4 in SS T409 turbo-back system and was very happy with the fit and performance. I searched around like you and decided on MBRP and am very happy. The whole system looks like a piece of chrome :D . It bolted up with no problem to the stock hangers. I got the T305 SS 5 inch double wall tip and it really looks great and keeps the soot off my dually fenders. Pricey at $60 but worth it IMHO.

I would recommend using band clamps instead of the U-bolt type clamps that it came with, if you ever want to remove the pipes. The clamps can crimp the pipes making it impossible to remove easily or at all. I got my 3 band clamps at NAPA T305 SS for $10 apiece. I have since removed loosened the tailpipe to re-adjust it and it was easy to move and re-fit.

You can get the 4 inch SS T409 MBRP system for $440 + free shipping at www.xtremediseel.com. When I got mine in Dec it was cheapest since ground shipping was free.

Here's a link to their MBRP exhaust:

Some have noticed the drone at 1700-2200 RPM, but mine wasn't too

objectionable for me.

Only thing I would reconsider is getting a 4 inch downpipe to bolt directly to a new Turbo in the future. The MBRP downpipe has a 3. 5 inch adapter piece welded on so it will bolt to the turbo downpipe elbow. This restriction could be eliminated (I think) with a true 4 inch downpipe all the way up to the turbo and eliminate the elbow... as I understand it this would work.

Good Luck,

Dave

Where in Oregon is Rip - and I assume he will also install his system as well?

And does Rip also provide a larger downpipe from the turbo, either as part of his system, or as an extra cost option? What type metal is used in his system - is rust in the future for his system?

4" exhaust

Gary, Rips shop is in Milwaukie about 3mi. off interstate 205. I have a set of this 4" duel that exit straight out the back with 5" tips. They sound good, not to loud. See my readers rigs for pictures. Click on pictures for a close up. Just a happy customer.

Here is his web site. www.sourceautomotive.biz

I assumed you were looking for a stainless exhaust  .

The prices mentioned on some of these systems cannot be for a stainless exhaust:confused: . Have you first decided you want stainless or not  ? Or are you trying to decide? Most of the posts did not mentioned stainless so I'm puzzled because that will greatly effect the price.

you cant go wrong with rips, i have a rips 4" straight and love it, it sounds like it may be a lil too loud for your tastes. great price, great product, easy install!

The only way to get a TRUE 4" downpipe would be to get a different turbo that has a 4" flange. I'm confused by your statement. Every 4" exhaust system has to have a 3. 5" adapter flange so it will bolt to the turbo. The MBRP system has as close to a 4" downpipe as any system that bolts to an HX35 could.

Well... I'm confused too. I remember reading about getting a true 4 in downpipe that would bolt directly to, I think, a new turbo (or was it turbo flange. . I don't know) to eliminate the 3. 5 inch section. I assumed that the elbow could be eliminated and the 4 in downpipe would bolt directly to any turbo. Now when you say flange do you mean the elbow or is it a flange on the turbo your talking about?

I guess my conclusion is wrong. Please educate me on what it would take to have 4 inch all the way. Are you saying that it would take a 4 inch elbow on any turbo or just particular turbos.

Could you get a true 4 inch downpipe that, somehow, would still be able to bolt to the stock turbo now so later you would be ready for the switch to a new turbo capable of 4 inch all the way, thereby eliminating this 3. 5 in restriction?

Sorry for the confusion... I guess I'm guilty of being confused... . help me out here.

Thanks,

Dave
