I got my first squeek on my brakes today and couldn't wait to get here to search brake pads, and there it was right on top.
So without breaking any rules can you tell me where to order from?
But also this place can lead to some anxiety. Now I have to go suck my power steering fluid, extend blowby tubes, reroute wiring off shock posts, etc. ,etc. ,etc.
I've seen the best set of brake pads ruined by the worst installation job. Don't forget to rebuild your calipers. Not sure on the Ram but it has always cost me less than $5. 00 per caliper for the kit. That way you are assured of a more complete brake fluid exchange, too unless you have 4 wheel ABS. I think a power flush works best on them.
I did a brake job about two weeks ago. Went to Sam for the pads. Got a lot of good info from him. He knows his stuff. Pads arrived about 5 days after I ordered them. Good service.
Well... . my 98. 5 has a mear 36k on the clock. I don't use the truck as work transportation during the summer months, so it ends up being a weekend warrior. In winter months... ... . it often sits at the airport.
Thankfully, I found secure indoor parking for the baby
Anyway, I think very FEW people EVER change brake fluid... . yet alone to be on a mileage schedule. Heck, I don't know anyone who does... . other than TDR members or motorheads. . But that's beside the point.
<blockquote><b>"Do you really find it necessary to rebuild the calipers everytime you change brakes "</b></blockquote>
YES
I find it neccessary after the demise of organic friction material. The non-organic materials fry the brake fluid as they operate at much higher temperatures than asbestos (organic). It only takes me an extra 30 minutes to rebuild the calipers. I notice the pedal feels much firmer when doing the rebuilds, too. I do these at home in order to get the job done correcly.
Havent seen Sam Peterson post on this web site for a long time. He owns a business in Olympia Washington called Rapid Brake. He is to brakes what Bill Kondolay is to transmissions. Maybe Sam got kicked off this site by the TDR because he owns a business. The last I know his e-mail address is -- email address removed -- dont know if this is still a valid address. I f you cant reach him e-mail me and I will contact him personaly and find out why. Maybe he dosnt want to be contacted.
His last post was on 07-17-2001 09:15 AM, so hes still around just hasn't posted.
Sam's phone number (360)357-4958 Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm pacific .
In the history of the TDR I believe only two people ever have been actually "kicked" off. If you have ever delt with Robin or Robert (my experience is mainly with Robin) you will realize they are two very real people that do the best they can to make this work. Just something to think about.
