Off Roading Who make's a good 3"?

I hate to bore everyone with another clutch question but I need to figure this out. I'm running a '96 CTD 2500. 158k miles It's running an open exhaust (4" stacks) and an AFE filter. I bought the truck used from a dealer around Waynesburg, PA and knew nothing about what was done to it. I installed a South Bend clutch (up too 400hp and light towing) I dyno'd it at 273 HP @ 698 Torque. Max boost of 38lbs. Last year I started pulling. First time out I won second in the Hot diesel class. The second time pulling I smoked the clutch real bad. Stunk for a week. So my question is. . was my clutch to light for pulling or did i just mess up off the line and smoke it because of stupidity?

So now I need a new clutch for this year. I think there's a #12 plate in my truck. I'd like to change to a #10 and a 3K spring kit. I want to end up around 325 HP or more. What clutch would u recomend for my truck. I don't want to keep buying clutchs as my HP gets increases. The truck is my daily driver (25 miles) so it needs to still be somewhat streetable.

Thanks for any help you can provide. .

You need a dual disc or you'll never make it past one good hook. There are a number of good ones to choose from that can still make it on the street, Southbend, EEP, Haisley etc. Don't even bother with any of the singles.

Thanks for the reply on getting a dual disc clutch. . Anyone have an ideas on what it'll take to get me into the 325-350hp mark...

Thanks for everything...

Haisley------- 128 hooks without a rebuild !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Umm... ... . what gear? what 4wd range? 5 or 6spd? what size tire? and what gear ratio?!? I've NEVER heard of one going anywhere near that long.

NOT calling you a liar, just curious.

I think I remeber dynoing right arount 325 with a #10 plate slid all the way forward, 4K GSK, and boost elbow.

IMO at that level, you can't go wrong with a SBC. Just call and talk to Peter.

BTW, I use the "SB" gear too :-laf

A #10 alone is supposed to dyno right around 330HP/770TQ full forward.

#10 plate full forward & Marine 300 injectors (which I don't recommend) will get you 340HP.

#10 full foward & PDR 370 injectors (highly recommend!) & 16* timing will get you right @ 400HP I think? I can't remember exactly.

Jeff Strothcamp was close to that also

The Mitchell clutch is great, I have had nothing but good results out of them. I sell EEP clutches and others too. I have a double disc with a . 330 floater plate and 12 pads per side. It uses the same pressure plate as a south bend clutch that can be set up to any plate load you would like can be done with stock flywheel or SFI billet. Also have three disc dodge clutches all SFI approved.
