Am I interpreting the test correctly?. The stock OEM filter won the test. Sometimes too much data just confuses us. Thanks!

Well more than anything I think the test helps you pick out what you're really looking for. The OEM filter (note this was a Duramax, but the same principles apply) offers outstanding contaminant trapping and holding. It is an outstanding filter. But it doesn't flow nearly so well as the other filters in the test.

So what do you want? Lots of flow, or great filtration? Oiled filters will give great flow, not so great filtration. Paper filters give great filtration, not so great flow. That's where things like the BHAF come into play - excellent filtration afforded by the paper with very large surface area to offer as much flow as a more traditional high-flow synthetic/cotton/gauze media.

I realize that opinion and analysis runs counter to what probably 80% of people believe. That's fine, I'm not putting anyone else's opinion out. Since I did not conduct the tests I cannot verify their results. I don't have the funds nor the facilities to conduct a similar test using other filters (such as the very popular AFE PG-7). BUT, it makes "sense" to me that a paper filter will generally filter better but flow less than any synthetic media.

The plunger has barely moved on me. I would say MAYBE 1/16th of an inch. I have a lead foot so the turbo is at max boost quite a bit. I need to tow something to see how it reacts.

I have seen that test before. Very good info in there. I was really considering the BHAF, but decided on the AEM Dryflow. It's been installed for almost three weeks now. At the two week mark there was nothing on the inside of the tube. Here's 2 pics after two weeks. Mind you, it has been dry and dusty as crap here in TX too. I wiped as far down that tube as I could.

Nice post... I've been running K&N filters for years. I really like the BHAF... but I have yet to see a nice setup on a 3rd Gen.

NavyDood... did you do your rain mod on the AEM heat shield yet? I'm curious before I spend the dough for the Brute Force Dryflow. I certainly don't want to be sucking water in! :(

No I haven't done the mod yet. I was just thinking of adding a shield where it is wide open from the front of the truck and maybe something on the bottom. I may get an outer wear. Just haven't decided yet.

So, after reading this I come to the conclusion that there is no perfect cold air intake. I just bought the Scotty 5 (which I like) but it doesn't seem like the people who are "in the know" think too highly of it. That contradicts what I read in my pre-purchase research. . So I have kinda concluded that with all aftermarket products (especially these high flow intakes) you can find info supporting good and bad. So just buy the one you like and forget about everything else. I guess they all work good enough. :-laf

There's nuthin wrong with the Scotty 5! Oo.

Mark Craig... .

Good Idea. To bad you will have to wait a year and a half for me to get 8-10,000 miles. Maybe I'll go smear some grease in their tonight.

What micron size does the Stage 7 filter to? Nothing on their website make a mentioning of this.

I went with the AEM because of the fact that it is a 100% synthetic dry filter that is washable. I never have liked oiled filters. I know every company out there has it's sales pitching propaganda. And retailers become partial to one brand because they work. But, there could be/are other brands that work as good if not better at a lot better price.

I guess I am a guinea pig in a way. Of the 3 high traffic Dodge diesel sites I am checking every day, I am the first one to go with the AEM BruteForce "Dryflow". On paper the dry flow looks great. Real world testing will prove otherwise I guess.

NavyDood... the hydrophobic process used to repel water on the outerwear cover only lasts for 6 to 12 months. Have you had any water ingestion issues with the AEM yet? Since you volunteered to be the guinea pig, I'm waiting to hear!
