Saw 28. 0 mpg on the display today! :--)

I filled up and hit a two lane highway behind a car carrier. Perfected my drafting technique for about 20 miles :D

fuel mileage?

You better not get to use to using that overhead computer. Do the math and you will get the real reading. :--)

I get 23mpg at (yeeeaaawwnnn) 55mph. At a more lively pace of 70mph I get 19mpg. Around town I get 17mpg average with alot of 35 and 45mph long stretches. The worst I've seen for a day's average was 14. 9mpg. Odd thing is, we get 20mpg on trips with the Durango if we set the cruise on 70 but only 12mpg in town. The Durango doesn't have a trip computer so it's all with the calculator. With the truck, the trip computer has always been within . 2mpg accurate compared to calculated.

My overhead has been pretty accurate, but if it told me I was getting 28 mpg, I would be looking in my mirrors for Santa Claus;)

The other day I hit my reset button, looked down and saw the car in front of me had stopped, and I had to slam on the brakes. I looked back up and saw 87 mpg. So if I keep slamming on the brakes, the average will stay up, right?;)

I just performed a fuel mileage test on my truck this past week.

When I filled up last week I spent the extra 5 minutes to fill the truck to the brim (fuel in filler neck). I then reset the computer and drove off into the sunset. Tonight I fueled up again making sure to top it off and heres my results.

I drove 245. 6 miles of stop and go, short trip driving, with maybe 25 miles of that on the highway going a not so steady speed of 60-75 mph.

Fuel burned= 16. 691 gallons

Overhead reading= 16. 2 mpg

Real calculated mpg=14. 7

For clarification my truck has 2,300 miles on it and I have a heavy foot (size 13) :D. You can check my sig for the truck's particulars.

Kinda curious to know do all the lower 48 states use a climatized diesel blend in the winter, or is it just the northern states. This last tank full I noticed a slight reduction in mpg using the same driving habits, and routes. It usually does not get that cold here in Texas, here lately low to mid twenty's, sometimes in the teens in the morning's. About eight or nine years ago we had a cold snap when it was down to five degree's, and our trucks at work would go about 100 yards down the road, and the fuel was starting to gel up. Was wondering if the stations here was using's the blended fuel for people that were traveling back to the north. Hard to get a answer from the little girl behind the counter where I usually buy fuel, when you ask about cetane level, and climatized fuel.

Tony,

They must use winter blend fuel at all truckstops or the trucks comming from the south would act up when the got into freezing temps.

I have seen a drop recently, last tank was 14. 1 no towing, mostly short trips, maybe 200 miles of the tank were highway.

I always get less mileage in the cold weather. Cold tires, lubricants and winterized fuel all contribute to this. Short trips don't help either.

Went on a trip in October that went from Jax Fl to Niagara falls over to New Hamshire back over th Apalachien mountains and home. 3600 miles total running about 70 most of the way and got 21. 5 mpg average. Noticed a decent increase in mpg after I climbed the mountains the first time on the way up. I think that was pretty decent considering all the climbing up mountains I did.

I just traded a '00 2500 Quad auto, 3. 55, SWB 2WD that was getting 17-18 mpg with 50,000 miles on it. I bought an '04 3500 Quad, 6-sp, 4. 10, LWB, 2WD and it's giving me 17-18 with only 2000 miles on it. This is figuring manually, not the computer reading. Over 1000# more truck, 90 extra hp and 135 lb/ft of extra torque and 3 TONS of extra towing capacity at no cost in fuel mileage! This new truck is great! I got 14. 5 mpg towing my RV with the old truck--can't wait to see how the new truck does towing.

Anyone out there with a similar situation?

I've got 20,000 miles on the truck now and I'm averaging any where from 14 to 16 miles to the gallon running empty, mixed town/highway driving. Pulling a trailer is a whole other story. The best I've gotten pulling 10,000 pounds was 12, the worst was 9! I have noticed that the mileage has gotten better after the 20,000 miles I've put on it. Maybe I'll be able to squeeze another mile or two to the gallon better at 40,000?

Oh and by the way I figure all my gas mileage with pen and paper. My computer has been right on with my calculation so far.

I've done the math on every tank since I picked it on 7/2 of this year with 11,000 miles. Worst tank (calculated) was 16. 8 mpg. Best tank (again calculated) was 19. 9 mpg.

This is a daily use, highway/surface street vehicle. No towing, minimal loads. I bought it for the longevity (I hope!). I know that many of you will probably consider this blasphemous! :D

:-laf :-laf :-laf Yea, just ride the brake, that will help.

My OH display seemed pretty close too until I put on the 315s. I was downstate last week and between snow and the wife's :-{} I set the cruise lower than normal and was pleasantly surprised by the average. ((I think it was 21. 6 indicated which seemed impossible because there was no tire size correction)

OK, if I go 60 instead of 85 there IS an advantage.

(again, guessing on speed--Forgot the GPS)

Yup, that was me. I've never tried it while driving before. Saw the number and wanted to record it.

Seems reasonable to me. I've obtained nearly 22 mpg (calculated) since taking delivery in May (12405 miles on 568. 2 gallons). This includes my daily ~18 mile round trip commute to work (which has 10 stop signs/traffic lights along the way). This is what I obtained on a 75 mile round trip, mostly highway trip recently (55-60 mph):
