again, I need the group's help!!

after 12 years the optimas won't hold a charge for long. Where can I get the best deal? I'm on the mid peninsula, but I do work in the east bay.

Thanks in advance for your help guys!!

I am pretty sure that Cosco carries Optima batteries, at least they used to.
Clark, how's your Sears Platinums working out? I got in on that same deal. My old ones are still functioning great in a buddy's 1997.

The batteries are fine, but dealing with my local Sears was a tragedy. I used to work for them from 1973-1979 and customer service was #1. I had a heck of a time getting them as nobody seemed to know what they were doing. WTH happened?

Hi Dave,
The Platinums are in my truck, one of the oems is fitted into the old Toyota i use as a ranch truck, and the other is in the shop on a trickle charger waiting for something.
BOTH the old batteries tested on my hydrometer in the low "fair" range, so I am EXTREMELY happy to have gotten in on the Platinums for such a LOW price (I was able to add a $35 off coupon as well as a $10 off cc application refund).

In any case, I had NO problem with my "local" (2 hours away in Santa Rosa!!) Sears. I called them up the day after the purchased them online and let them know that I would be down only in a couple weeks to pick the up, but that I would appreciate if they set aside a pair of the Platinums with a MATCHED date of manufacture code. Went I went down to pick them up, the salesperson had set aside two batteries that were labeled 5/12, so they were hot off the assembly line!!! I am well pleased with them.
My only problem now is that the ground terminal on the PS battery has a small crack in it that is keeping it from tightening on the post to my satisfaction. I will know this week if the dealer will replace it under extended warranty (I doubt it, but they are checking) and if not then I will hopefully just fill in the crack with silver/lead solder and see how that works for a fix.

In any case, what was so difficult with your Sears??

I purchased them online for the $153 and it said 6 in stock. The store assured me they were in. Got there, none to be found. Said they'd have some in a shipment arriving Wednesday. Called,no Platinums on the load. Was told they'd send a guy in the morning to another store. Called at 12:00 pm next day and the guy hadn't left yet. Was assured they be in next morning. I called the next day and they were in. Got there and batteries were a year old,but out of frustration I took them as regardless, they'll outlive me.

The techs seemed together, but the management need to stop smoking something illegal. :-laf

I bought my last Optimas a couple years ago at FourWheel Parts, which is now in SJ. But I believe that O'Reilly's carries them, and they're all over the place.

That being said, I just bought two Costco batteries for my '03... .

I think the quality of Optima is dropped severely off the deep end in the last few years, and I am not sure they are worth the cost anymore.

The Sears Platinum's are top notch, and re-badged Odyssey's. They have worked excellent for me.

The Optima's are probably OK for someone in Ca. But if you have to use them where it's really cold you'll find out the hard way about their lower CCA ratings.
