I bought my shaft direct from Borgeson, then later noticed that Summit Racing has a better price. I don't remember the pricing or difference, but it may help pay for the shipping cost.
Hey guys, i was about to order me a new borgeson shaft today, but i dont know which one will be better for me. Should i go with the 2-joint setup, or the rag-joint set up. I have a 4x4 and a lift and bigger tires may be in order. I was thinkin bout just goin with the 2-joint setup, what do yall think?
They(borg) say the 2 joint unit is for heavy duty applications, ie. . off road, yes it's much more tough but it also transmits more shock up through the column, that's why the factory had the rag joint to begin with, unless you're really in to tweaking your front end at Moab HARD, i would go with the 1 joint that 99% of the 1st gens are using.

Yes that's true. In addition the "rag joint" also dampens the power steering pump noise from transmitting up the column. The steering wheel can act as a "speaker" and really accentuate this noise.
Not sure if this is the case in our specific vehicles, but we have seen this on other vehicles in the past.
The rag joint also affords a small degree of compliance for misalignment.
It does allow a slight bit of rotational lash... that is steering wheel rotation before the force is transmitted to the powere steering gear, but normally that's not much of an issue on our trucks.
Alright, ill probly go with the 940 model. Looks like a new rag joint is not included. Are those available at most auto part stores? What else will i need?
Have never checked but I'd be surprised (shocked) if it were a parts store item. There are so many available... we use so many different ones depending upon application. Most are the same physical size, but different torsional rates (ok different stiffness in normal language)
If you re-use your existing bolts and nuts please use locktite and tighten to whatever the "book" spec is for the grade of bolt you have. Yes use a torque wrench. I know most people won't bother, but we test steering shafts every day and it does make a difference.
