Questions about my KIT Companion 5th Wheeler

How to find Value for Old travel trailers?

Grizzly-The answer is no, I did not hear about the rain test. We discussed many items and I am sure I didn't give him time to add some info. Matt was fun to talk with and had answers for most of my questions. I have spent hours reading about tires and the problems some people are having. My understanding of the Michelin construction is that there are 6 steel belts running in the side walls. One would think that this might just be over board construction and not really needed. As we look at the small sample of people having tire problems it would lead one to believe that the Michelin is not over built, but highly desirable in the towing world. I'll will probably be a "Test Kitchen" for awhile before I spring for the extra cash to upgrade. I hope I am not foolish, because I have expirenced a blowout on my boat trailer that took out the fender, that was a bummer. 3 miles from home and boom! tire gone. Jim

They were building an exceptionally plush, exceptionally heavy, and exceptionally expensive fifth wheel. Their models are fully painted with high gloss automotive paint and the larger models are on tandem dual wheel axles. Really in the MDT/HDT class for tow vehicles but an outstanding unit for fulltimers, nonetheless.

Harvey,

TDR writer Jim Anderson owns a big Mountain Air by Newmar with dual wheels/tandem axles and tows it with a 2006 Dodge 3500 Quad-Cab 2-wheel drive dually equipped with a 48RE automatic and 4. 10 rear axle ratio. He formerly towed it with a crew cab International MDT truck, but grew tired of its large size for getting around solo and the rough ride even though it was equipped with full air ride suspension and air ride seats.

Bill,

Yeah, I know, beautiful trailers but I wouldn't tow one with a 3500 dually. I consider my 14,000 lb. HitchHiker the practical limit for my 3500 C&C.

I wouldn't want to tow a 20,000 pound fiver with anything less than a Dodge 4500/5500, but preferably a FL or IH real MDT with air brakes and the mass to handle one. Our Dodges can pull one but are not truly capable of handling one in an emergency.
