Best shocks for improved ride and control

Having ordered the Tuff Country 2-inch front leveling kit I want to replace the shocks. With the weight of the Cummins engine and trying to improve the ride, I have narrowed the selection down to three shocks. The RS 9000, RSX and the Edlebrock IAS. Which one of these shocks is the best for ride and durability under the extreme weight of the Cummins Or do I need to look at double shocking the front?

Don't double shocks for ride unless a square wheeled ox cart is desired.
Just installed set of 9000s this week. Down to # 2 front and rear and it seems to be good. My gr weight is 8700# so im heavy. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks what I think of them

Edelbrock only has stock length shocks for the diesel. However, I wanted Edelbrocks so bad that when I lifted the front of my truck 2" I bought two new upper shock mounts and cut them down 2" shorter to make up the difference. I little welding and mine's unique in that I'm running Edelbrocks with a 2" lift.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the Edelbrocks. I think they offer the best combination of ride and control without having to manually adjusting anything. However, they're not as stiff as the Ranchos set on high. So if you want something really stiff, you probably won't like the Edelbrocks.

Personally I don't think the RSX are worth the money. The ads sound good, but you're really not getting anything new in shock technology.

If you want the best technology, get the Edelbrocks. If you want total (manual) control, get the Ranchos. Either one will be so much better than OEM that you'll never look back.

I agree with Kyle. I've had my Edelbrock IAS shocks on my '98. 5 Ram for just about 2 years now. I purchased them JUST after Edelbrock developed them for the 2500 4x4. I still very much like the performance of these shocks. The IAS shocks are of a mono tube, high pressure (gas) design.

On the other hand, there are countless others very satisfied with their Rancho 9000s (adjustable dampening, twin tube, low pressure gas shock). Another extremely high quality shock is the Bilstein mono tube, high pressure gas shock.
