Thanks, TDR Staff

Competition any 3rd gens with an HX55??

Competition Big Single's what's a good choice

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe George Peterson has ever broken a stock shaft in his automatic. Nobody on TDR has abused their automatic more than GP.

They went with billet last tear down, though.

I run a ATS triple lock along with the entire ats trans, billet everything. The converter was built as a pulling converter, and i pull in the pro street diesel class , has a real firm engagement when you slip it into drive, the shifts are seemless, i drive it regularly, and am running around the 6 plus level (need a dyno to be sure). It works well, i love it never have to worry, does the job and locks strong. Very pleased, its worth the money and I know ATS has a lot of r&d behind them. Good luck

why not make things as strong as possible, that way you never have to worry about the truck leaving you on the side of the road in bfe with say your family while towing a big trailer. i want the security, that is a good idea about the out put shaft being a fuse. they arent broken often unless 4x4 launches on a hard surface. we put so much money in buying these rigs, and building them up, why not spend the extra 695 on a billet input shaft (easiest to break) and never worry again. just my . 02, better safe than sorry.

Once again I gotta agree w/ the big red truck from Pa.

I gotta say that I don't know why a shop would sell Brand G converters and run brand Mile High in their trucks. If I am wrong I apologize.

Gene, I think George runs a manual valve body, so I think that would help quite a bit w/ the shafts.

Run whatever transmission you want. I think that they all three are great. I have rode in Floor its truck pulling a 27' gooseneck and 01HO's truck going 85. Dave Lange's 552 horse truck everywhere. Those are both awesome trucks. I went w/ Dave because he made time for all my questions has never talked down to me. Dave does not recommend billet shafts because he does not think that it is necessary to spend all that $$$$. He will tell you that if you are going to launch in four wheel drive making boost you will break something. And that is true. Dave will sell you billet shaft if you want them.

Sorry, I had to vent for a minute. I couldn't take people bashing one of the nicest guyz I have ever talked too.

Per Haisley's recommendation, I chose Dave Goerend. Who else offers a lifetime convertor warranty AND all the customer service you could want??? Dave's new patented convertor is the nats @$$. When you push the go pedal, it goes, like right now. No hestitation. Thanks Haisley

**With all these transmission threads lately, someone should organize a "transmission tryout" at Diesel Thunder in June, to see how each transmission compares to one another**

I recommend parts on application. just because the ats is good and say we run one ,does not mean it will be good for you. I run a 8 inch 5500 coan tc in my 23 t altered does that mean it will be best for this app, no. a call to haisley will get you many questions, then you wil get your answer. just as I said, IMHO the ats stalls too high to drive.

I would love to see that!

The only problem is building an apparatus to test them on.

Dave was going to build a twin turbo'd monster Cummins for his dyno in the shop and then decided against it because of the dangers of flying shrapnel!!

What about getting a ISC 8. 3 and juice it up a bit. I am sure there is an adapter plate out there that can connect a 47RH/RE to the ISC.

Connect the trans to the ISC and the trans to an eddy break. Run the isc against the gov and start applying a load.

O ya, might need to buy a good scatter shield.

I can see it now, a bunch of guys standing around a screaming motor holding beers and saying “Dang ya think she is gonna blow?”

I agree Justin... . Get 4 trucks... with each of the big 4 trannys and set them all to 400hp and hook them to the sled. See who goes where. Then take them to the drag strip and run them there... . Sounds like a good set up for IRP!

Josh

PS, What's the last thing a Redneck says before he dies?

HOLD MY BEER WATCH THIS! :D

Let's just test each others trucks and see what we like and don't like about them. Drive them around IRP or something. Surely someone can get this set up for Indy??

Roman

We have it set up already-its called sled pulling and dragracing.

Have the vendors plaster a big decal on the hood of their chosen one, so we can keep track of them.

Yes we realize that... . we are talking setting the trucks up "equally" so we can see what each has to offer in the power transfer to the ground.

Josh

Well honestly Josh, after reading this thread, what you are suggesting is virtually impossible, is it not?

Each vendor/customer sets them up different for towing, racing or pulling. Maximum effort in one area, will leave shortcomings in another.

And who still has 400 HP? 400Hp isn't really a test, anyway, is it?

The main thing I have learned from reading this thread, is they all seem to work, IF the builder knows exactly what the customer is going to do with it.

Change a turbo 6 months later, and you may find yourself out of the sweet spot that was your perfect transmission set up.

And, if you cut one corner, it will bite you to the tune of$$$$$.

I thought by now, an automatic transmission company would pull ahead and set the standard, but if anything, they have taken 'not an exact science" to new realms of possibilities.

Which is a good thing..... right?

I called and checked with one of his crew before I posted nieter, but he could have been wrong.

It would be funny to have George lay is transmission parts on the table, and watch everyone scratch their heads, and declare those can't work together!! :-laf

Hilljack Engineered, whatever it takes!

brian block and kirby engineered. and sometimes the head scrathing occurs. duct tape here, shop rags there, and first place all over. not for looks, just hooks.
