What is the most reliable sealant to use on a '93 12-valve engine? This is my second water pump pump in 353K. Please recommend any other efficient procedures.

Thank you all. Happy Christmas, and a . Blessed 2019 . Patrick

Are you asking about gasket sealant? Or a stop leak type sealant?

Your redo rate ain’t all that bad!

Merry Christmas!

Once all the surfaces are razor blade clean n clear (especially coolant) and maybe 180 grit scuffed, I prep with spray brake cleaner, and then a slight skim coat of basic black RTV silicone on both sides of the gasket.
Done that hundreds of times. Never fail.

Am I missing something here? Every 5.9 water pump I’ve seen uses a square cut o ring as a gasket. 2 clean surfaces, no gasket sealer.

JH, I think you’re right! Been a while. I thought it was o ring as I was replying the first time.
If o ring, a bit of grease is fine, dielectric tune up grease is even better.
