Competition Bad day at the track

Competition So.Cal Drag Racing

Well I finally made it out to the track. Once I got the new tires on (1 hour e. t. ) I made my way to the staging lanes. I want to say it was easier learning to drive a vehicle then learning how to race an automatic, manually shifting it.

But I started getting the hang of it and ended the evening with a 13. 04 @ 102 mph. 60' was 1. 80. Last two runs were within . 08 time and . 01 speed. So the consistency will come around. The mph has suffered, so I thought immediately that I have lost some hp, but I also am running 30" tires now rather than 35" so wouldn't that make a difference also? So now the goal is to get 12's solid then we'll keep working on it! Not bad for 4 runs I don't think.

Special thanks to JBrookshire and his brother for helping me with putting the 35"ers back on!

Wow, Ive been waiting to see how it ran at the track. Those are very very good first time auto numbers.

MPH can suffer with a shorter tire, course the gear ratio will change a bit too making the out of the hole a bit faster if you can hook up.

Good numbers, you must have some kinda HP anyway... . from the numbers I would say you aint lost much. (-:

that's great you will get into the 12's no problem. are you coming to may madness? i hope so i don't want to wait until muncie to race you. :D was lock up working? i thought i read that you got it fixed. what were your old 60' times. 1. 80 is pretty good. what was your 1/8?

Eric---do I understand you right when you say you manually shifted the transmission---why??? If I'm wrong then sorry, but if not, I'm sure there's lot's of guys who want to know what ATS's setup can do on its own---so maybe next time you can run once with it doing the shifting---again if I am reading this wrong then disregard---nonetheless those are some great #'s and cuminntstrkn is right the 12's are easily insight----way to go... . chris

Great time. I guess that sea level air must help some! :D If anything, I'd think the 30" tires would help... more out of the hole.

Were those #2 only runs? MPH is less because HP is down... an auto will absorb more than a manual, right Jim. ;)

12's will be easy. Great consistency!

Nice job... .

Like everyone else, just wondering why you shifted manually?

was this 4wd run? What are you launching at?

Once you figure out what type of launch works best for your truck... . I'm sure you'll see the 12's in no time.

You have the SPA gauges right? do happen to know what your peak boost and EGT was? Just wondering... .

Manually shifting

I am choosing to manually shift it. Reason being, I am used to a manual and seeing 3600-4000 RPM's in each gear. My racing style is that of which I know my trucks shift points and wish to manually control that. I was only making one shift. I put the truck in manual 2nd so I can get the full RPM's before I shift into third. I had the O/D on so next time I will even control that too. I will make fully auto runs next week, weather permitting and let you know how it goes. Understand that I am going to be trying many combinations so I can find where my optimum speed and consitency is.

I am just completly amazed with this set up, it shifts so smooth that I have to really pay attention to the tach. Many thanks to the ATS staff and management for their support and hard work to help me acheive my best track times yet!

Kat, I launched with 10 lbs of boost. 60lbs of boost 1733F which is the same as when I had the manual. 4WD launches of course, those 30" tires peel out with moderate acceleration ;)

Jim, my old 60' was ~1. 88. My lovely wife disposed of last year's slips I think. Or they could be buried some where. No I'm not coming out to MM. :p You have to wait pal, lol.

Keith we are at ~1000 ft. here so it's not quite sea level. I will be monitoring the sea level vs. humidity this year.

Are you sure...

you can't make it to May Madness? I just found out the track will be open SUNDAY from 8am to 5pm for "grudge matches" and general Test N Tune.

I know I'll be out there, as will Stefan, Jim and others. It'd be good to compare them all at the same track, same time.

Go get'em Eric... . let's see mid 12's by summer. .

sure would be fun to get all the big power guys together in one spot and flog the heck out of the monster motors. .
