Better ride for fifth wheel

Hello All,



I am fairly new to fifth wheels and was looking for some expertise in the area. I have a fifth wheel toyhauler (see signature) and am very happy with it. I am curious however if anyone has experience with the Mor-ride (spelling) cushioned pin box. I take fairly rough roads from time to time and would like a little more protection for the truck and 5'er.

The Mor-Ryde pinbox is especially good at cushioning against fore-and-aft movement (aka "chucking") as it has a lot of freedom in that direction. It's less effective at cushioning vertical movement - it doesn't have as much travel vertically. Air-cushioned pin boxes or hitches are generally more effective for vertical cushioning.



Whether either approach is worth it to an individual depends on what that individual is trying to accomplish and/or what kind of problem they're experiencing.



Our current 5th wheel (see signature) has the Mor-Ryde system that replaces the mechanical equalizers in the trailer's suspension and rides much more smoothly than our previous 5th wheel that had the same 7K Dexter axles but used the mechanical equalizers. I bring that up since the ride improvement over our previous 5th wheel is easily felt in the truck, but the pinbox and hitch design haven't changed.

Try a trailair pin box. Or there are many air hitches around also that stay with the truck. I like it to stay on the trailer personally. A regular 5th wheel hitch is heavy enough to lift out.

Thats an excellent idea, my 02 Tahoe Transport fifth wheel's aluminum siding kept loosening up and peeling off from rough roads and pulling in deep sand at Pismo.

we "dan pam and 5 year old josh" have a trailair pin box on our 36 ft cedar creek, 15000 # fully loaded. it has been the best thing that i have put on aour camper since we bought it.
