I purchased a new 2014 RAM 3500 DRW in the middle of December.

Now I needed to add a few things to the truck.

One of the fires Items was a pair of steps similar to the Smittybuilt ones I had on my 2004 after 10 years still look like new.

I settled on the 5”Oval step from Raptor ”CYC Engineering” Boy that was a mistake!

I received the bars on 1/4/2014 Had to sign for them unpacked them assembled all the hardware on Sunday 1/5/2014 to make sure it was all.

When I unpacked the driver’s side bar it had a dent in it and I was really surprised how thin the material was on the bars plus I could squeeze the oval and deflect it about .5 inch on top and bottom…

So I made a decision that the bars were not the quality that Raptor States first time running thru ruts and gravel this will be destroyed and they were damaged when I got them so I want to send them back and get my card credited…

I called 4wheelonline and they told me to take pictures and fill out the return form and select credit they will get me a MRA # so I can ship them back.

I received a email from them that stared I was getting a MRA#, than about 1 hour later I get a e-mail that Raptor is sending me a new bar ….I don’t want a new bar and I need to take time off work again to be there to receive the new bar that I don’t want plus now I have a damaged bar that I have to take to the dump….more of my time wasted…..

I want these returned and my account credited they will not do that now until I receive the new bar and pack it with the other good bar and send those back…than they are going to charge me shipping for the first order along with a 10% restock fee.

4wheelonline tells me that it is Raptors policy along with theirs. I looked on Raptors web site did not find this policy about sending a replacement bar

I know I will not be purchasing any additional products from either one of these retailers in the future and when I told them that they did not care so I thought I would let everyone on TDR know.

I should have purchased the AMP Bars from Genos Garage….

Thanks for reading…be careful where you buy

Firstly, it would be helpful if you posted a pic of the "dent."

Shipping and return shipping ARE most often the responsibility of the buyer...that being said, MANY larger companies will pay return shipping if the product is not as described or actually damaged.

Damage caused by shipping/handling is normally the responsibility the shipping company, which is normally covered by insurance taken out by the shipper. I believe that it is the shipper who is responsible for making a claim to the shipping company on your behalf.

Restocking charges, if any, are always set by the company that sells the item, or if the item is drop shipped from the manufacturer, then by either of the two companies.

All that being said, I am very surprised that 4wheel online did not choose to waive the restocking fee and/or part of the return shipping in an effort to make it right.
I would call them back, and ask to speak to a supervisor, politely and firmly explain the problem and tell them what you would like done to rectify the situation. If the steps are indeed a lower quality then described, it is in their interest NOT to continue selling them. The main issue is to be extremely POLITE, but also firm. As a last resort, if they are not willing to at least meet you part way to your satsifaction, tell them that you have already started threads on several differnt forum using photographs explaining the problems with the steps and 4wheelsonline efforts, or lack thereof, to make it right. Then post the results. Just my .02

PS---you ARE right, the Amps steps are AWESOME, and they, just like Genos Garage, are a reputable company with ONLY top notch customer service and tech support

Thanks for the comments.
The problem I have is with Raptor they sent me a Bar whan I did not want one, I want to return them so now I have to spend time waiting for the bar to be delivered and sign for it or go to the carriers wear house to pick it up because I will be at work. than they told me to not send the bamaged bar back so now I have to take it to the dump. Raptor uses .047 thick SS for the steps on the 5" oval you have a 2 inch flat that in unsupported that you can defect with your thumb and index finger about .5 inch per side. If any one misses the step pad it will damage the step.

4wheelonline is charging me a re-stock fee and original shipping that I will be paying and I accept that...but if Raptor would have listened to the customer my restock fee could have been less and I would have spent less time messing around and taking time off work along with getting rid of their damaged hardware

Thanks

Iron Cross on theie tube steps uses .065t SS

I'm sorry, but if you didn't order the 2nd set of bars, then why bother taking off work to receive them. Let the shipping company send them back. You did not order, not your problem.

I agree with seafish comments on calling them.

I did call them and they said I would not get any of my credit back unless it included both good bars and they don't want the damaged bar....so if I want to get any of my money back from them I have to get the new bar and send them back.

I did get a Pre paid slip from them so If I decide to not loose $100.00 I will keep the 2 good bars and send them back their garbage...damaged bar...

But if I decide to send it all back I will use the saws all to cut the damaged bar in half so it fits in the box and send it back with the good bars.....for my refund!

Last time I buy from these guys....

One easy way to solve this if the vendor wont. Call you credit card company....present them with your evidence and initiate a chargeback. It's not acceptable for vendors to misrepresent a product and expect you to deal with it. The most effective way is to be polite and firm.....then if all else fails....intiate the chargeback.
