BFG AT KO to Toyo MT, anyone made the switch?

I've got LT315 7R 17's with almost 35k, got about 5k left in the tread.
I've started my shopping and I'm considering going with the Toyo MT 35x12. 50R17 125Q E/10 ( E rated )

Anybody done a similar change? Notice any differences?

Any suggestions on a comparable tire I might consider?

Swapped from the BFGs 315s (D load range) on 17 inch rims to the Toyo MTs on 18s (E load range). Since your from SLC I would assume Les Schwab?



Price difference was significant, but the looks of the Toyos are awesome. They wear good for MTs, but they are louder, harder sidewalls and therefore just a tad harsher ride.



Overall I have been happy with the Toyos. The look is awesome, they wear good. I would do it again, but hopefully not soon... The Toyos are like $340 a pop (on 18s) compared with $220 for the BFGs (on 17s).

Did it on my old ford. The Toyos were a little rougher riding ,but not much. Toyos were louder ,but again not bad. Of course you have to expect that going from an AT to a MT. Toyos are VERY good tires. Probably what I will put on my new Dodge when it gets closer to hunting season.

I'm on my second set of Toyo MTs. Paid about $305 each at Americas Tire Co.
I got 67k on the first set and they still had some tread left.
I love these tires. For such an aggressive tread design they are very quiet and handle wet pavement great. I highly recommend them.

Just got back from Baja running the toyo mts in 37". They are a confidence inspiring tire. Much beefier than the BFGs,but you will give up some performance in the sand. I pulled 2 race trucks out of a water crossing in tandem Oo. #ad

Make the switch a.s.a.p! You will not be disappointed!

I just made the switch two days ago and man I should have done it when the truck was purchased. I had to wait for a set of Weld rims to get powder-coated so I was running BFG All Terrains on Hummer rims. The BF's are too soft I. M. O. for my taste. I really noticed how bad it was when the Carli suspension system was installed on my truck. The tires would slip all over the place. In the rain the where awful.



The Toyo's on the otherhand are a dream. The exhibit so much grip, I finally have the confidence back of pushing the truck a little more. It rained all day today and the traction was much better.



Not to mention they look mean as h*LL.

Just rotate them at least every 7,500 miles and check pressures often and you'll get great life out of them too.
I like to run 40-45 Front and 25-55 rear depending on load.

"Field Test" Report... ...

Went fishing yesterday at the same place I went last weekend (with old BFG AT). 200 round trip, 50 miles of which were dirt, gravel and rutted road.

Highway: Was expecting a hum from the deeper tread. Not audibly noticable in the cab (with windows up!), can feel a slight difference (hum) in the feel... and I mean SLIGHT.

Crusing at 70-75, passed a few times up to 90 MPH.

Dirt: Big difference in traction. Noticed that my rear end wasn't fish tailing at all like it did when drifting through loose stuff on curves with the BFG's. I expected to be hearing a lot of pinging of rocks off my frame and under carriage from the heavy tread. None.

Speeds varied from 20-40 MPH... .

VERY SATISFIED. Big chunk of change, but worth every cent. I had no idea a tire could affect performance so much.

I know... bringing up an old thread, but I am looking for more opinions from those who may have switched from the BFG A/T KO to the Toyo M/T. I am in the market and will replace my 315s by Spring. Any new observations on the increase in noise?



I am especially interested in the new 285/75/17E they have in the M/T.



My other considerations:



1. Replace with BFG A/T KO 315/70/17D (50K on mine currently with no issues (DW), and even wear on stock rims... did pick up a couple of screws)

2. Toyo Open Country A/T in 285/75/17E (look kind of wimpy though)

3. Nitto Terra Grappler in 305/70/17E

Questions ... Can I mount them on stock rims and on a truck with no lift?? or will they not have enough clearance?

I don't know how well the Toyo's work without a lift but I do have the 35's mounted on my stock wheels and they seem to be wearing very well.



They are by far the best tire I have ever had, traction is great on and off road!

they are a little louder than the mt BFG's(which are slightly louder than the BFG AT's.

The ride is about the same, traction is much improved on and off-road. towing is also much more stable.

I will never run BFG's again on a HD truck!

i love my BFG's have em everything ive owned. i usually get 60K out of em. just me but i dont like jap tires. stay away from nittos, my buddy had some an only got 20k out of them, worst tire yet. no exp. with toyo, but im keepin with BFG!!!

I was concerned about the rubbing while turning so I added 2. 5" levelers up front and a set of Bilsteins all around. A great tire. Have 20k on them now with about 50% off road. Looks like they will last another 20k. I did have the center lugs siped last weekend to help on the ice and snow here in Wyoming. I will definitely replace them with the same.

Is the road noise significantly greater than any A/T you might have owned? I know to expect more noise, but a significant amount of noise would turn me off from these tires. I don't need to be heard from a mile away and still want to be able to hear myself think and listen to the radio in the cab. Thanks.
