JohnE, good observation, buy no it's not cookware. But, I did look into that possibility. And yes, the housing can be rotated to pull air from the turbo area when things cool down.
Noise, tieing into the cowl duct does increase turbo noise, however, it's not objectionable. When I was running the stock filter, I removed the silencer ring from the turbo, after about a week I re-installed it. When I installed my first BHAF last July, I discovered the snapring had moved and the silencer was just kinda floating near the turbo impeller, so no silencer since them. However, with the BHAF , the fact that the ring was missing was barely noticeable.
With the housing connected to the cowl duct (and no siliencer ring) it's much quieter than the stock housing and no silencer ring. I can't comment on what it'd sound like with the ring installed, I suspect it be fairly quite.
EGTs, I haven't had time to do a real test, but it seems to have lowered EGTS, the weather here has warmed up quite a bit lately raising exhaust temps, and the GSK has allowed for increased fuel at the upper end of the RPM range, again, higher egts. These two issues make it a little hard to know factually how much of an improvement I've got. I'll do a back to back test, with and without the housing soon. I likely hook up either a load of hay this weekend or the backhoe. Each will result in a GCVW of about 27K.
I'll post results in the next few days.
