I just took the trail up to Big Bear. It was great. The roads are pretty well graded, some slow sections, and a little mud and snow. For the most part it was a graded road. A 2wd truck could make it up most of the way safely. In a 4x4 you can cruise up no problem. I did the run up the hill in 55 minutes. I have to admit I was in a bit of a hurry. The snow starts at 5500 feet and gets deeper as you go up. By Saturday there will be snow on the side of the road but not on it. Expect the ride up the hill to take 2 hours. It will also be cold (snow) so bring a warm jacket. Lunch will be at Chads Place in the Village of Big Bear at noon. Hope some people can come and have a good day out. Here are some pics from today.

Looks good Greg,We'll try to make it. My son went up yesterday and brought a truck load of snow for the neighborhood kids so they could see a snow man on Halloween.

Hey Dave bring your truck out and show everybody it is not just your Best of show truck :)

David?

It appears to me, that his truck is stored in a Bedroom, not a scratch on it and the undercarriage in MINT condition, Its prolly safer to eat off of davids engine compartment than most upscale restaurants in Beverly Hills :p

Oh BTW are you going Jakey,Mediccummin,JGheen?

looks like a bit O brag in pic # 2 there Greg LOL

you guys have fun on the super highway that's in those pic's... looks like a fun day of fellowship and eats :)

BTW. . that is what my road to my home looked like last tuesday only much steeper and off camber turns and paved... damn near had to plow LOL

OK- there has been a fair amount of interest in getting this going on, so lets get a show of hands for Greg so he can make plans. I would reccomend a couple of things. If you are planning on making the trip with Greg up the off road route, that is great, Greg will need to coordinate that and get the group at a common meeting spot to make the trip up. I would imagine there will be some passenger seats available if somone may want to hitch a ride up the hill with another- post your availability and pair up with someone here on the forum.

For those who own 2x's or don't wish to brave the rough road, you could hook up with the group at the top for lunch at a designated meeting spot, Which I will post here as soon as it is determined.

The ride is still on, November 6th, Meet in Yucca Valley, CA 8:30- 9:00 AM. We will be taking a trip up the back road to Big Bear. It is a graded fire road with not much maintaining done. It will take us about 2 hours to get up the hill. IT will be amazing, lots of fresh snow on the ground. I will run it one day this week and scout out a route. Lunch in BB will be at noon. Call me for a meeting place. We can have breakfeast or just coffee. The trip starts at 9:30 on Saturday. If someone wants to camp, Call Greg for a list of campgrounds, directions or additional information.

Thanks for your support!!

There is more information and a poll there to try and come up with a show of hands.

I will be there unless it turns out that I can get my heater installed that day. I'm pushing for Sunday, but that is the last step in recovering from my termite invasion and its starting to get a bit nippy in the morning!

Good idea Joe,

A couple of things need to be addressed,

DSherman,

we have been taking a collection of quarters. I think we have enough for you to was your truck after the ride. Take that baby off the pillow mattress and come out and make your truck happy.

This is a ride for the beginner or novice trail guy. It is not a tough ride at all. If you are inexpierenced, that is great. We can help you learn new off road driving techniques. What I hope to do is open up minds to the potential of your truck. It will look alot better in the mountains than some parking lot. The worst part of the ride is 2" of snow on the ground with a little mud too. We will be traveling at a slow and safe speed. No jumping or flooging the trucks. Smart 4 wheeling is a must. Tread Lightly!!!

Now for the list,

I will need a head count. We will be leaving at 9:30 am from Denny's in Yucca Valley Ca. I will have my cell phone with me, call if you need to. 760-819-9551

Please post your name if you are coming, we need to know who to wait for.

Thanks,

Greg

Chad's place???

Greg, I was at Chad's a few years back, is it still the fine family establishment that it used to be?

I might have to drive up for lunch.

Greg,

Sounds like it's turning out to be an awesome trip - beautiful country and the perfect time of year! If I'm not pre-running for the Baja 1000, I'll bring our race truck go on the drive. Just try not to roost me with "Big-Red. " You know how sensitive I am about off-road competition...

Best Regards,

Ram4Sam

Im in Gregory, no problem I'll be like Ram4Sam and meet you guys @ chad's, I dont wanna get my little truck DIRTY like others that I dont wanna name :{ or I'll try and hitch a ride w/Little Dennis or Bob4x4, Huh, Did I hear there will be Beer JGheen :)

I tried and still trying to get medicummin to go but he has this lame a$$ excuse that he has a 2 and 4year old to babysit, whats the difference he could either babysit @ home or @ the beautiful snow :) J/K DwAyNe, , ,

Little dennis taking his toddler, Hell I may take a toddler too an 18year old toddler (female) :p

Looks like I will be able to go. Oo.

I'm still pretty new to the site and the whole CTD world so I'll have to drive either my '99 V10 or my not yet cummins powered crew cab. I prefer the crew but it isn't licenced or insured yet, so I'll have to see. Trip is a little backwards for me, I already live on the mountain near Big Bear. I'm planning to meet in Yucca and drive home from Big Bear regardless.

Looking forward to meeting people,

Donald

Great Earl,

Welcome aboard!!! We welcome any vehicles. I think there is even going to be a Phord on the run. It all about having fun. We'll see ya on Saturday. Looks as if there might be as many as 10 to 12 trucks coming.

Greg

JGheen

Dont worry Joe :{ Gregory and myself will have 40K LB. tow-straps that can pull a fleet of CTD Dually's :p
