The Case Against Hillary Clinton.........

As I write this I am very close to losing a good friend and companion, my female Saint, Barkley.

I came home Sunday night after a short trip to New England, both Saints were at a local kennel. I picked them up today in the early afternoon, they seemed to be fine until I got home. Barkley was acting somewhat lethargic and started to attempt to vomit, with very little exiting other than saliva. I kept an eye on her and, when her condition didn't improve after about 30 minutes, I called the vet and spoke with the Dr. We decided the bring her in and apparently made the right decision. By the time we arrived at the vet, she could hardly walk. We had to place her on a stretcher and a quick xray confirmed my suspicions, bloat. Her temp. was up to 107 at that time. They prep'd her for emergency surgery and my wife and I left, as we had to get the girls.

I received a call an hour later, Barkley came through the surgery, but they had to remove her spleen, which had become damaged from the bloat and lack of blood flow. As of 1800 hrs. Monday she is in critical condition. They say the next 12-24 hours are the most critical to her recovery. For all I know, she may have already passed as I write this. I'll have an update at 0800 on Tuesday.

I need a few prayers for my dog tonight, from fellow members that are dog lovers. I was always aware of the bloat risks with the Saints, my only thought is that she drank too much water prior to my arrival and before the trip home.

For the others out there with dogs of the giant breed, please take note of this risk and watch for the signs. There's a ton of info on the net if you do a search under 'bloat'. I will hopefully have some good news to report tomorrow, but I'm not overly optimistic at this point.

A deeply saddened,

Scott W.

Sorry to hear that Scott.

I don't know what I would do if something happened to my Black Lab "Chevy" he's my best pal and realy a member of the family. It's funny how you can become so attached to an animal.

I'll say a pray for Barkley and so will Chevy.

God Bless

Darrell

Family

We're not really dog people but darn it, Barkley's a member of your family. Our prayers are with you and your especially Barkley.

Scott,

Sorry to hear about Barkley, I hope the best for Her recovery. I am a dog lover, and lost one over last winter, she was 14 years old, and in bad health and her time had come, but it was still tough. Non dog owners have no idea the feelings one has for their companion, Barkley is in my prayers.

Hope everything works out good for you Scott. Mom and Dad's Golden Retriever passed on last winter-he'd been in the family for 12 years and though he was sometimes a PITA :) I still get sad when I think about him.....

Hoping for the best for you buddy... ...

I don't post very often as I still don't have my truck, but subject is very close to my heart.

I know the sorrow that you're going through Big Saint. Our furry friends are like children to us. Only true animal lovers know what I mean! My prayers are with your 'pup' for her to pull through and come home to you and your family!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope she ends up fine. I'm not much of a dog lover, but I can't stand to see someone have to give up someone/thing they truly love for reasons beyond their control. :(

Scott, Your family and Barkley are in our prayers. We have two Samoyeds and consider them family. Keep us posted.

Hope everything works out for your dog and family. Don't have Saints (have enjoyed reading about yours for a long time), but have had dogs, cats, horses, for a long time and have been in similar situations. I have had to make the tough call more than once with all, and it is never easy. Several of our 'family members' are 'getting on' so will have to make decisions again and it will not be easy. GOOD LUCK AND MAY EVERYONE INVOLVED FEEL NO PAIN, JUST THE JOY OF HAVING KNOWN ONE ANOTHER!!!!!

Sorry to hear about that dude. Hopefully things will work out for Barkley. I know what it's like to lose one of "Man's best friend's". You have my sincerest sympathies.

Scott, hoping the news is good on Barkley. My female Rottie just had her spleen removed three weeks ago. Had a grapefruit sized tumor. All the tests came back benign, she had her stitches out last week and is back to her usual "growzy" self. I admit, I had not looked into the ramifications of removing the spleen yet. The vet did tell me she would be more susceptable to things like Lyme.

Perhaps the power of the TDR members helped

Wow !, thanks for all the replies  . So far she is holding her own. She's gonna be at the vet for at least 2 more days in the best scenario. They said she ate today and was able pass the waste, which is a real good sign. Looks like the next 24 + hours will show how much the blood restriction damaged the stomach, if at all.

Thanks for the kind responses, you guys are the best !

Great to hear she's doing better. They don't call them mans best friend for nothing. Dog sure do get under your skin.

Hopefully you'll have many more year with her... .

Scott,

That's great news!! Having lost my best bud (a 12 year old male Sheltie) to liver failure a few years ago, I wouldn't wish that on anyone! :( Hope Barkley continues her speedy recovery! :D
