$49. 99 here at the Honeoye Falls NAPA (south of Rochester, NY). Odd that it varies so much around the country. I should have it in the morning, just in time to hit the road for a trip to ohio. Should be interesting. :D

My results

Ok, I will use the same disclaimer that moparguy used. I picked up the filter at my local NAPA store. It runs 50 bucks here in the Mid-west. After a quick R&R of the factory box I went for test drive. My stock setup was just a Fleet guard filter in the stock box. No extra holes or other modifications. I do not have boost module yet (PE COMP on order) so I am limited on my boost. I could hit 1400* running each shift to 3200. Now I reach about 1230* before I shift. I also did notice that I drop about 50* just running down the interstate. I can hear the turbo for the first time while driving. A final note, I am usually at 400* when I pull in my driveway. Last night I was at 300* when I pulled in and I had just gotten home from a couple hard runs. Couple of notes: This is the first test with my filter. All EGT’s were measured pre-turbo. I am very happy with this setup except I am going to have to build some type of heat shield. Thanks moparguy.

7-24 Puff bought the only NAPA in town. Cummins does not stock em and wasn't eager to get one. Donaldson doesn't stock em but called warehouse in Denver, The RMTDR guys bought, 7-24, the 3 they had in stock. Ended up with a Balwin from Sandia Fleet.

FYI fob Albq.

Napa 2790 $39 or $42 forgot which

fleetguard AH19037 $38

Cummins 3924541 $??

Steve StL I hope you are still following this.

Where did you get your Fleetguard filter. Cummins MI here in GR wanted $52 for it. A bit too much I thought.

If anybody in the San Jose area wants one, I just ordered mine at Bay Cities Diesel Engine and he ordered 4. He has three left for $40 apiece. Thier phone number is (408) 263-1510, right next to the Great Mall.

Will geting it WET when its time to give the baby a bath caus any harm?? Some water may get in thru the space between the hood and fender... .

Just installed my Big Honking Moparguy Filter.

:D

My truck is stock power wise (just a 4" Jardine exhaust), but I do notice the EGT's are lower. They fly down a lot faster too after a hard pull. Sounds pretty similar to the K&N. And I just can't believe how big it is. You can tell how big from the pictures, but unless you look inside you have no clue how thick the filter media is. I got the stunned conversation from the NAPA guys too. . "What's this for?" "My Dodge. " "What? You're kidding. " "Nope. " "How the heck does that fit under there?" ...

At any rate, thanks much. Hopefully the stock airbox and K&N can sit in the cardboard box I put them in from now on. I'm thinking of picking up a battery box tie down strap to hold it in place a little better though. . Seems like it'd be about the right size. .

I installed mine tonight - way to go MOPARGUY!! For now I just took the stock box out and put the filter in. I didn't use a stiffener as the neck of the air filter is extremely sturdy. The seal is great, nice and tight - I don't see anything leaking through it. The filter itself is very impressive, extremely well built and the amount of surface area is incredible. It looks like it has reduced my EGT's by about 150 degrees, kind of hard to tell though. When I'm shifting into 5th under full throttle acceleration I'm now hitting 1350 degrees wheres I would be pegged at 1500 with the stock airbox and filter (no snorkel). I still peg the gauge before the end of the 1/4 mile but not nearly as quickly. Now I've got to build my air box - water is a concern of mine.

Cooker - I bought mine from D & K trucks in Lansing. It's a local truck shop that is also a Cummins dealer. Got it for $32. 70 - they had to order it in. Ordered it on the fleetguard part #.

Thanks for the kind words.

Steve, glad to hear the filter worked for you. Keep us posted on your air box efforts. I haven't taken time to get back to that, to many irons in the fire. Gotta run a new water main/service line very soon. Also working on a new 40x68' hay shed. Gotta finish it in the next coupla weeks.

GGreen, I haven't noticed any water getting on the filter from washing the exterior of the truck, or driving in the rain (on road driving that is). I plan to cover the filter with a plastic bag when I wash the engine.

air filter hazard ?

I read with interest the posts regarding this air filter. I subsequently purchased one from Napa. I installed one in the vehicle and found that EGTs did not seem to have changed as drastically as others have reported. I believe this is because the filter is drawing hot air from under the hood. More importantly I noted that the metal cage around the filter was extremely hot. I believe that because of the close proximity to the turbo there may be a fire hazard. I think the filter has great potential if we can find an enclosure that will allow outside air to be drafted into the filter and remove the heat influence from under the hood, especially from the turbo.

Any thoughts on my perception of the fire hazard would be appreciated. (The JRE heat shield may make this a mute point). Has anyone got any ideas on the application for this filter so that we could see the kind of enclosure that the filter normally sits inside. Or perhaps an after market plastic holder could be put together.

I'm also concerned with a possible fire hazard. I was planning to fabricate some type of enclosure out of aluminum. I don't quite have all the resources I need to do that yet. I need a weekend to look it over and figure something out. I have been following this thread to see what others have done. Or plan to do.

Question about the "filter to end all filters"!

Seeing as this air filter was designed for industrial applications is it safe to assume that it'll do a good job filtering in dusty conditions? My poor truck sees way more gravel than pavement (except on days off of course) and I don't want to compromise filtration. I have a K&N sitting in the basement that I'm scared to put in for this very reason..... and the stock panel filters are pretty grungy in 10000 km.

Picked up my Moparguy filter today! Wow, what a monster... the parts guy did have a terrific observation: There is metal screen around the outside, but none on the inside -- so when the paper gets wet (ie. big puddle) the heavy paper will get sucked into the pipe! The guy disappeared for a couple minutes, and came back with a similar filer... almost as big, same shape... . but with screen inside and outside! Is for the 8. 3 Marine application, and is designed to go directly on the turbo! Caution: a boat's engine room is, although warm, very clean... no dust and dirt to contend with! And, the price: My Moparguy filter was $38, the Marine filter was $75. Food for thought.

Ed,

Perhaps the reason you are not seeing the same results as other is that your truck is not BOBMed to the hprsepower as others. Usually a stock truck see less difference to intake and exhaust mods. When you BOMB the truck and make changes the results are more pronounced.

JMHO,

Ryan

I look at the price this way. I buy 2 regular filters a year now at ~$20 each. So if I could spend $50 once a year it's not that bad at all, IMO. The thing is if it only last about 6 months (or 12,000 miles) like the regular filters do, then I'd be leary about a $50 filter. Time will tell. I guess I finally better order one :)

I don't think the screen will make the filter catch on fire. If I remember right, most paper combusts around 475 degrees F. My metal screen gets warm, maybe even hot, but I can still touch it and hold my hand on it without burning myself.

RE-0880

Has anyone taken out the 0880 filter and replaced it with the Moparguy filter? If so, did it help or hurt performance?

Good question

I've been wondering about the compairson with the K&N 0880 myself. It would be a easy thing to swap with a fellow member just to see.

I agree with Cooker, the compairson would need to be on a bombed truck to really see if one flowed more than the other.
