Napa Online

That Napa part number does not appear to be connected to an air filter on their online site.

Guess I'll have to trek to the store.

Ordered Mine!

Ordered my "moparguy airfilter" today. It is a Baldwin and cost 34. 99. They special ordered it so I have to wait up to two weeks:eek:

I am going to have to figure out some way to let my inject my propane vapor though. I think I'm going to use a piece of copper tubing in the piece of 4" pipe I plan on using to connect the airfilter to the turbo hose.

First Gen?

Sounds great. Has anyone tried the "BHF" on a first gen? Is there room? Seems like there would be more underhood room on the old boxy body style, but I'm not real familiar with mine yet.

Just got my truck a few weeks ago and it already had a K & N installed. Have heard that the filter oil can migrate into the intercooler. :(

Looks like you started a revolution moparguy!:D

Big_Bad_Dually,

I too have to consider where to inject the propane. Back when I ran the RE0880, I just cut a piece of 4" exhaust pipe about 4 inches long and silver soldered a fitting in the middle. This is how I plan to install this filter too.

I'm picking mine up in the morning and will keep you posted if this doesn't work.

Napa

My NAPA guy is a surly old SOB. He insists that their is no such animal as a 2790 filter. There is a 2970 that costs a whopping 8 bucks. He really did not want to spend any time with me on this. Is the number correct?

2790 is the right # I called NAPA and got a price on it. $59. 00 here. But the # was good. Got mine at a big truck parts house, Baldwin filter was $40. 00.

That is a good NAPA number. Number one, find another NAPA to deal with. There are usually plenty of them around with folks only to glad to help. Make sure you tell them it is an air filter.

 Uhhh, some NAPA guys  It probably would be easier to just go to another store but if you run into them telling you this again, here's what you do ;) When they punch it in and it doesn't come up or comes up as some other kind of part, tell them to "F7" their computer one space back to the line code, punch in FIL and hit enter. This will bring the filter up. All it is, is they've never sold one and they're computer isn't bothering pulling up the number but it will if they do this (kind of a manual overide thing). It'll probably p*** 'em off that you know how to run their computer better than they do :p but oh well.....

Phoned my favorite Cummins store and the filter was $48. 65. That is in my Canadain Looney! Right now I have the K&N in the stock air box, and will hang tough on ordering the monster filter till there is a little more info on micron filtering abilities.

A suggestion

For those of you worried about the heat off the turbo/manifold. What about a exhaust blanket from genos? Would that help?

PS That thing is MASSIVE! I would like to hear the results of anyone who took off the RE0880 and put this one on. O hell Ill call around today and see if I can get one at a decent price then ill report.

Sky,

That may be an option as there is not much clearence between the filter and the turbo. I have felt mine with outdoor temps at 90 degrees. It is hot but I can keep my hand on it. Still, it would be better to minimize that hot air going into the filter.

I went from the Pyscotty with 880 to this filter. The difference was very obvious in overall response and drop in EGT's.

I just went and picked up my filter from NAPA. I want to share what was said between me and the Napa guy just to show why I can't stand the Conroe Napa Auto Center.

Me: I'm here to pick up an air filter that I ordered and was supposed to be in today.

Napa guy: okay (walks to back and brings the box to the counter)

Napa guy: What does this go on?

Me: A dodge truck, believe it or not.

He then looks through the glass front of the store and sees and hears my truck sitting there idling.

Napa guy: This is for the Dodge trucks with those big 7. 9 (yes, seven point nine) liter cummins engines. Yea, this is the right filter.

I just kind of chuckled at his blissful ignorance and walked out of the door.

Now on to the more important filter stuff. I drove straight home and put the filter on. I have a liquid propane convertor in the corner of the engine bay that made the fit a little tighter for me, but it still worked. I had wrenches handy so the entire install took about 3 minutes.

I fired the truck back up and went for a WOT run to look for any gains. There was no time for cool down or weather changes. I saw NO decrease in EGT's, NO faster spool up, and NO more boost.

I hit 1300° EGT right as the truck shifts into 3rd, just like before.

I ran the RE-0880 filter for about 5 months before going back to the stock intake. I pull trailers everyday and got tired of the screaming turbo sound associated with the K&N.

I will say this filter is much quieter than the K&N counterpart.

I'm going to leave the filter in for now and hook up the propane system again.

With the propane and a stock intake I see 1480-1500° EGT, so maybe I'll see a difference at the higher temperatures.

I know every truck responds a little differently to mods, but for my truck a stock CLEAN air filter is hard to beat.

Yup! No big deal though. If I ever sell the truck, I have the option covering it back up with the insulation which is folded over. (I would only do that at a dealer) You cover the raw metal edge with a 4" truck tailight grommet so it does not look all that bad. It should still be helpful in getting air to the big filter.

That and drilling holes in my vehicles does not bother me in the least. I buy em' and use em' for me.

I called NAPA today for rotors & pads for my wifes GC Jeep had the pads but had to order the rotors, they had to be paid first

b4 they would get them which I can understand but they wouldn't take a chg card over the phone, they claim nobody does.

I asked hoe in the h__L do you do business he says that's they

way it is. He looked up the 2790 & couldn't find it I have to call tomorrow & tell him to hit f7 & type in fil like dandee mentioned in a previuos post.

sewman,

Apparently, the only common aspect of NAPA dealers is the name. Different price structures, trouble finding the part even with a good number. I ordered mine over the phone. They wanted my card number to order it in case I didn't show. They only took my number, they did not put a charge on it so I had no problem. On occasion, I will stop at different NAPA's on my way to work whatever. I can't complain about the service or attitude from any of them.

Called my Napa and they wanted 54. 40 to order it. I called Cummins and they wanted 42. 10. I just bought my RE0880 so im not sure if im going to order it or not.

This is Way cool guys!!

I think I'll put a Moparguy BHF on my truck too!

I need to know one thing though.

When yall order from a Cummins shop/store is the NAPA number still a valid product number?

Thanks,

MerrickNJr

Filter

I ordered the Fleetguard filter from Metropower Cummins in Rocky Hill Ct today. $33. 00. NAPA wanted over $50 everywhere I went. Tom
