Who'd thunk it.

Don't know what has the record for the most views of a continuous thread, but this one has had quite a life.

Interesting reading, thanks Bob.

The filter test by the Ferd boys is interesting, BUT. The isn't any value to the filtering effiency, only air flow. We can put a window screen in the airbox and flow a lot of air. But can we flow lots of air and no dirt at the same time? That is what we need to know. Some say the K&N lets more dirt though than another brand. K&N says the filter does a better job after it has been run awhile and over cleaning defeats this. I like the K&N, and run it on everything I own except my CTD. The Turbo noise was too much to take 8 hours at a time. Loved it in town. I now have a Napa 2790 on it. It is louder than stock and quieter than the K&N. And due it size it probably flows more air than the K&N.

funny you should ask

Just got my analysis yesterday from Blackstone. Did'nt have the BHAF on the entire run... . but I think enough to give us an idea. Ran the oil for 6k, had the K&N on in stock air box for the first 3500, then switched to the BHAF. So it got to see 2500 miles of use. The good news..... silicon reading @ 2. The previous analysis had the silicon @ 5, so the BHAF definitely did'nt hurt, probably helped! For those of you wondering, the universal averages for silicon on our engines is 10 according to Blackstone.

I made a mount for the BHAF . Copy it or I can send you one for 45bucks. The flange on the turbo side is an attempt to reflect radiated heat (I still have not polished the one on my truck) brian mallory Look back for BHAF mount for pictures

Well, I ordered the 2790 (or 2970)BHAF, this is my first BOMB, with more to come as I can come up with other clever ways to convince my wife that I need them:)

Sign me up. . I'll have my BHAF tomorrow for 41. 23. After 14 pages of posts I just had to have one.

Wait till Dad sees it. . He has a Phord. I wonder if Phords can use it too?:p

Oil analysis

As a FYI kinda thing, I ordered a Fleetguard oil analysis kit yesterday from Geno's. When it gets here I'll change oil and we'll see what about 7,000 miles of sometimes very dusty driving conditions yeild with the "Big Boy air filter".

This will be my first analysis so nothing to compair to, but I changed to the BHAF right after my last oil change. We'll see.

OIL REPORT

Received oil report from Blackstone for oil change on 10/22/01

Total miles on oil:6675

Total Silicon 5 AVG:13

Last oil report at with 4834 on oil and OEM airfilter:Silicon 8

The last report was with the BHAF for 6,000 miles.

Mostly highway,maybe 10% dirt.

Seems to be filtering OK.

Big Honking Airfilter

I have read all the info todate on the BHAF.

Has anyone run into problems and if so what kind. Has anyone come up with sometype of protector for it. Any suggestions on installation would be appreciated.

Going to check getting one tomorrow. :)

The only thing I did differently was to take three 3/16 vacuum-hose plugs and thread them over the original air-box mounts. They provide a nice rubber covering over the studs. When I picked up the "Mallory Mount", I used the same plugs to hold the mount in place rather than washers/nuts. All has worked out well so far.

BHAF

sheeyoot... ... ... this hasn't been back to the top of the threads for a few days... ... ... ... ... .

new number for the filter from another source= Baldwin PA2820:D

Oil Analysis Results

Well according to the Fleeetguard Monitor results, the BHAF is doing a pretty good job. As I mentioned in a earlier post, this is my first oil analysis, so don't have anything to compare to. The truck currently has 88630 miles on it. I change oil between 5,000 and 7,000 or so miles. I ran a little longer this time due to a trip to Colorado from Arkansas. This put about 2500 quick, high boost miles on the engine. Miles that were likely better for the oil than the usual low boost, around home driving.

Mileage 7600

Oil Delo 15w40

Filter Fleetguard Microglass

Silicon 4

iron 35

Chromium 2

Nickel 1

Copper 0

Lead 1

As mentioned earlier, I had a lot of dusty, dirt, and gravel road driving on this oil change and am not at all disappointed in the numbers above. Of course I'm comparing to data others have posted. If I had changed oil at the 3,000 to 5,000 mile mark as many do, things would have probally looked even better.
