Went to an exhaust shop today and had them take off the muffler and put a pipe in its place, all I can say is WWWWOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!

:--) Have heard it sounds like a KW and now I know for myself, cost 30 bucks, butt the sound and the reactions I get from people are worth much more than that. The only question I have is will this cause my temps to rise, my truck is totally stock otherwise. The original restrictive bends are still in there though, would it be easier on the engine if I actually went with a real system which flowed better, not trying to go crazy with horsepower just want it to last another 200K!!! Thanks to all who respond, Alex

I really liked the sound of my old 91. 5 with no muffler. My W350 will get that treatment soon. I am not so sure the little lady wants me to cut the muffler off of her wheels, the W250, yet. My dogs would start dancing when the truck was a block away. :-laf Glen

You think it sounds cool when you're driving, you should stand outside and let someone drive your truck down the street. You will get a whole new appreciation of what LOUD is. I let my dad use my truck last week. When he pulled away, I was taken aback by how loud it is! I'm surprised my neighbors don't complain. Hell, they hardly even look anymore.

LIke I said before, I had Anne Drive my truck up and down the street so I could hear what it sounded like passing by and I was really amazed how less raspy it sounded from outside the cab. I was thinking about putting a 51" donaldson on the 4" pipe, but no more now. I think the raspyness is amplified because of the echoing effect, aka if you stomp it next to a brick building and such. You're getting a reflected, altered sound. She also enjoyed surprising me by smoking me out with a WOT romp... I guess I was due for payback after all the times I purposely and accidently smoked her out, including thetimes when I start it up with her walking to the passanger door from the rear of the truck :D

I know, she lets me get away with TOO much

but make no mistake about it, it is really REALLY loud

I guess I've been around enough straight piped cummins trucks that I don't think their too loud at all. We have enough small block chevies running around with headers, tiny pipes, and maybe 12" glasspacks. Now they are loud, and sound like you know what... ... I'm all for v-8's with flowmasters, but a straight 6 turbo diesel needs a straight pipe.

I had a 1965 Malibu, originally a 283 power glide car. I built an aluminum head, roller cam 468 for it, spent more than I care to admit, but it sure sounded sweet! 3" exhaust with a pair of two chamber Flowmasters. I enjoyed the parking garages and mall lots, nothing quite like rows of car alarms going off... Glen

Don't worry about me Mike, I'm not switching back to a muffler. I did switch out my tailpipe for a used one off of an '01, fits and looks better than the original! Who'da thunk it.
