About a month ago I got the infamous P0216 code so I figured it was injection pump time.

In anticipation of this project I had downloaded the VP44 install videos that Diesel-Dan made. I highly recommend these videos to anyone who is thinking about tackling this job on their own. A big thanks to Diesel-Dan for taking the time to make these videos, you saved me a bunch of money.

Everything went smooth during the install. The only problem I had was getting the rear fuel line loose from the head. No way was that fitting torqued at 28 ft. lbs. . I think the same gorilla that Dodge hired to install my original oil filter was also tightening my fuel lines!

For anyone who is interested in these videos here is the link, post #31.

YUP - not a bad job if you have the tools and the time. I found another set of instructions that was quite a bit better detailed, and used those when I swapped out my own VP-44. I tend to work a bit more slowly and cautiously than most, and had some other cleaning and related mods to do as I swapped the pump, so it took me the better part of a day to complete the job. All in all, very worthwhile to do it yourself, both for the $$$ saving, and also for the experience - glad I did mine myself... :)

Congratulations on yours!

Torque on vp44 shaft nut?

I think it says in here torque to 125 ft-lbs. Is this right? Please respond, I have the old one out and waiting on UPS for the new one, has to be finished today.

Thanks guys ya'll are the best people I know.

I also watched Dan's videos and they give a lot of insight into what I was in for in the VP-44 changeout (Thanks Dan!!) and then I read the instructions from Chip at Bluechipdiesel and then started the changeout and as I have already posted this, I was done in 2. 5 hrs and as Chip says in his instructions "Remove the front three lines (1,2,and 4),You don't have to remove the rear lines form the head, only from the pump and move them towards the block and the pump will slide rearward past the lines" this , I am sure saves an hour or more in the changeout time. Can't say enough good about Bluechipdiesel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
