Just replaced the junk stock shocks with a set of 5100 series Bilsteins. Big difference in the ride and handling. Got them for $297. 80 shipped from Hot Rods and Custom Stuff in California. They were very helpful.

I just ordered a set from Shox.com

$279. 80 plus $12. 36 shipping... Total $279. 80

The rear ones will be easy enough to change, but not to sure about the front.

Did you do the job yourself?

The front shocks are easy. Just take the 3 nuts off that hold the shock tower on and remove the shock tower then you can get the shock out.

Not to question anyone here but are you guys sure they are for our diesel application. Just becuase they say they "fit" doesn't mean they are specifically made for our application. I keep hearing from others that have called Bilstein directly that they will be coming out with a shock for Cummins equipped models very soon but they are not out yet.

I talked to Bilstein, by phone, awhile back and to the Bilstein rep. at the SEMA Show, last week. Both of them said that they will not have a shock "dedicated" to our trucks til very early next year. The rep. told me that the design work, valving, etc. has been done and they are awaiting manufacture, in Germany. If you can wait til Jan. '05, you should be able to get the shocks designed for our trucks. From what I have heard, the shocks available today are actually designed for "lifted 1500's (front# BE56681H-5, rear# BE56647H-5)". I have heard of a number of people using the 1500's shocks and they seem to like them. I have never heard of a complaint from a person using them. These shocks still seem to be superior to the stock shocks even though they are not designed for our trucks. I hope I did not upset anyone who has already purchased the "1500" shocks. This was never my intention. This reply is meant for those considering this purchase and to let them know the "specifically, designed" shocks are due to be available in the near future. Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo).

I just called and the new "HD" shock will not be a 5100 series... bummer

Shoot, You guys don't know what bad factory shocks are! Go drive a new GM truck some time. I HAD to install Bilstiens on that thing before I cpould even safely drive it. I thought the stocks shocks on my Dodges were pretty good!

I have Bilstiens on three of my vehicles now, great products!

Bilstein

Does anyone know what KORE uses in their kits? I'm assuming they're using the older stuff for their kits, since the manaufacturer hasn't produced a model of shock for our trucks yet?

I asked the lady that answers the phone, she said the entry level system (PACE) uses the standard, run of the mill 5100's... the ones we all know about already... .

Where as the Fox and Bilstein 7100's are custom

Any work if the new HD bilstiens are out yet, and part numbers? I'm ready to order just waiting on the new shocks.

The latest i've heard about the "dedicated to our trucks" shocks is that Bilstein has had a problem with them and, now, they won't be out til around April,'05. I got this information on another "Bilstein" thread. Not sure how accurate it is but, it sounded legitimate.

Sorry for the bad news. I'm waiting for the new ones, also.

Something else they said on the "Bilstein" thread was that Bilstein does not always have a good track record on the introduction of new products. They, sometimes, have problems with the new products.

Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo)

When I looked at them last year they were using Bilstiens for the highway kit but a stiffer heavy duty shock, I believe Fox for the off road kit.

KORE uses 2. 5" Fox racing shocks in the "Race" systems, 2" bilstien 7100 shocks in the "Chase" systems, and Bilstien 5100 shocks in the "Pace" systems. I'm quite sure Kent told me the 5100's in his kits are not off the shelf, they have custom valving. Kent works quite a bit with Bilstien ;) I doubt his shocks are "older stuff".
