It takes all kinds. I buy a Soldier of Fortune magazine about once a year just to see what is really going on in other parts of the World. Its shocking to see the bloodshed. Woman, children, old men. Things that are hard to believe are going on because we dont hear about it, or see pictures on the evening news because they are in parts of the World where we as Americans have no $$$ interest. I must admit, even me... Mr. Radical, wrote some of the editors of that magazine off as wack-o's with some of their Nastradamis like predictions of how we (USA) would be getting hit big time by terrorist in the near future, or how these small "cells" operating in mountains across vast oceans could reach into the heartland's of America with mass weapons of destruction and kill thousands of people.
The issue I got this year was the July issue. It had an article in it about terrorism, and laid out all the cards. It listed all the incidents that had happened over the past 10-15 years that involved Americans, then listed what came of them. Very shocking considering the evidence that pointed to specific individuals, "cells" and even Countries.
The Author of the article made a good point with the Lockerbe Scotland jet bombing. The accused guy was tried in a World Court, found guilty and got the equivalent of 2 weeks or 2 months (cant remember) in jail for every human life taken. Col. Kadafi cried foul play because his boy that carried out his orders on this went to jail. the Author points out Kadafi is a "dick"tator, a. k. a. control freak. No one makes a move without his consent in Libya. You know good and well he made this happen, probably retaliation for Pres. Reagan putting a bomb down his chimney and killing his offspring... which was a direct punishment for another terrorist attack by Libya on our military at night club if I remember correctly.
In closing on this, the people most of us listed as radicals before, we are embracing as the smart guys now. The people who were middle of the road before all of this have now been shifted to the left just a bit, and the people we called liberals before are being called every name in the book. After re-reading that magazine over Friday afternoon, I became convinced that alot of those guys are right, have been right, and deservingly so shouldn't be labeled as doomsdayers or wack-o's like they have been. That doesn't only apply to the S. O. F. type people, but the Colin Powels, George Bush's, Dick Chenny's, Ronald Reagans and other "right wingers"(there are so many) who have been preaching defense of America for years. I doubt there is an American out there who is worried our current team of leaders wont do anything about this. If anything, there might be a few starting to rear their heads saying we are going to go too far.
Just as long as the majority of America believes in their leaders, we as a whole will be fine regardless of what the media says. Lets hope that the media doesn't do what they did during Viet Nam. Every week there was a reporter on the news at the airports standing among the silver flag draped caskets asking "does America need to be fighting this war?". After a while, regardless of what the reasons were we were fighting for, the majority of people started repeating the media asking if we should be there. I hope and pray that doesn't happen when our Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen start coming home in those familiar silver caskets. I am sure there will be a few asking "do we need to be fighting this war" on the evening news. I hope Americas answer is much different this time, like it has never been before. If you recall, even during Desert Storm, once casualties started coming in, the critics took to the airwaves and television screens. Luckily it was over before too many died, and before too many changed their point of view.
