Do you have like a part number list of the different items that you had to buy or put together for all this ? TIA

Nope no part #'s I just went to the hardware store and bought up a bunch of black iron pipe and fittings and started putting things together. I have some better close ups if anyone would like a copy send me a Pm with your e mail and I will send them to you. I am going to redo the processor soon with a cone bottom which I think is necessary.

Hey Burger Pine,

Any new developments on running your home brew?

MPG going up or down?

Overall how are the trucks running, and what is the precentage of bio/#2?

Just trying to get a grip to see if I need to seriously consider running to the hardware store to make me a set up. Oh yeah, any idea of how much money you have invested in your set up?

Thanks

Crazygator,

I'v been running 100% bio in my 04. I'v run 5 tanks through her and I can't tell a differance performance wise. Idles a little rough for about a minute when I first start it on a cold morning (around 50). still not sure about MPG at this point but leaning towards loosing about 1 MPG.

So far as Cliffman stated above my 96 runs perfect on Bio, it smells a little odd but runs perfect. I have no rough idle on the 96, it starts and runs perfect so far. My suggestion for anyone who wants to start brewing bio is to secure a supply of WVO first then build away.

Hey fellow TDR buddies,

After I get done w/my current street rod project, i want to start possibly brewing my own bio diesel, just as you guys are doing here. As the bio diesel efforts pick up, & more & more of us start doin' the home brew, the FEDS will loose their base for taxes. While I beleive all of us want great roads, I think the current $3. 00 gallon diesel fuel prices are outrageous & will run Bio diesel if I can. However, i don't want to waste a bunch of time & initial money if someway the FEDS clamp down on this somehow. I know it will initially be difficult for them to tell, but anytime these guys see a way to get a nickel out of us for tax reasons, I can imagine all sorts of legislation coming to keep restaurants from selling to individuals !!! I don't want to sound like chicken little, but thought I would at least ask !!

Any thoughts ?

Thanks for doing all the homework !!! Great post !!

Mike.

Sorry for posting w/o doing a thorough search - I just fond this out in another post.

Thanks again,

Mike.

Hey Mike which thread did you read I want to make sure I did as well.

Just add a little red dye to it - then they won't care if you make it. But then they'll get ya for using it on the road.

Honestly, I doubt enough folks will ever make biodiesel themselves for the government to ever care. It's just like those who distill ethanol for the gas engines. Yea, LEGALLY you're supposed to pay the road tax yourself, but who does? And does anyone really care?

A few weeks ago one of the local TV stations did a report on a guy in a little town down the road a bit who ownes a grocery store and is using the old SVO from his deli's fryers in his Mercedes. Only uses a few gallons of diesel a month, mostly just to get the car running, then switches over to SVO.

A week or so later the station ran a follow-up that the state taxing authorities had contacted him about paying fuels tax. His fuel costs just jumped about 50 cents a gallon.

It pays to keep a low profile if you're going to run "alternatives".

You are correct about the mileage I will be keeping a close eye on it as time goes. I see no indication of worse mileage so far.

As far as long term affects I will never know, my truck has ate more turbo's than most people will ever see and I am sure that is not good for the long term. I have about 120K on it now so we will see as I go.

128 K on the odo now fuel milage to close to tell any difference and the truck still runs great. Just got back from May Madness just over 1200 miles on homemade fuel. Burned about 130 gallons total at about 50 cents a gallon.

It cost's about 70 cents a gallon to make but now that my methanol still is up and running good I get every 3rd batch free. :)

Keep your grinning mug off the TV and I doubt anyone with tax authority will EVER notice. :p

Okay now, I have a buddy with at least 2 MickyD's willing to let me suck oil out of his tanks. I plan to "short" suck 'em. Leave the sludge for the commercial gunk boys.

Ordering Girl Mark's book now. Any other "required reading"?

I bought Girl Marks book and it help me grab the concept and I went from there, I would recommend it highly. I think it is all you will need to get started.

MickyD's oil out here in Ca is shorting and burnt to a crisp. Although it does make biodiesel it wouldn't be my first choice. It makes OK summer fuel but not as good for the winter. My suggestion is to get a sample of each restaurants oil you plan to use and do a test batch to make sure it is going to work before you commit to hauling off a bunch.

I think the book is delivered via Bio-vehicles only, still waiting.

Am I missing something or can't I use an electronic pH meter instead of manual titration?

Slim pickins on WVO locally. One each: Sonic, Hardees, McD's, Mexican, Chinese, Steak/Pizza joint, and two Greasy Spoons. Couple of Drive-up stores with friers too. But I have larger markets 20 miles away in three directions.

I'll make something work. ;)

No you can not use an electronic PH meter, doing the titration is very simple once you do it a few times. I don't think it takes me a minute start to finish.

At first it is going to take more time than you think it should to make a batch but once you get it down and have a good routine it is not so bad. I bet total time for 1 40 gallon batch is still about 3 hours though. I spend 10 to 15 minutes every day and some days about an hour or so.

Wade you could also check markets with a deli that serve fried chicken and fries, this is where I get my best oil- liquid canola that titrates at . 75 FFA consistantly.

Just ask what kind of oil they use and they will generally will show you the box so you can pick your best supply.
