How much of a percentage of Bio Diesel can I get away with running in my 08 without plugging everything up ?

Per your owner manual, if you have read it? You will know that you can only use 5% Bio-Fuel. The 20% use of Bio-Fuel is for large trucking companies and the Gov. , per your owners manual.

Yes I have read where it say's 5% but what have Other's gotten away with ?If the Gov can run 20 % can we run the same or do they do something Different to there truck's to run 20%

I have run B50 with no issues THERE IS A CAVEAT THOUGH! Bio is a better fuel system solvent than regular diesel. Anything in the fuel lines of an older truck is coming loose and going to your filter or engine. Father in laws tractor took 6 filters (81 massey that has always been run on dino diesel) before all the crap was flushed. Bio needs to be fresh! Bio breaks down into some pretty nasty compnonents as it ages. Those components are prtentially damaging to modern fuel injectors. Bio and rubber also don't get along well so older fuel lines are an issue; they can swell and split. The advice in the owners manaul is to prevent warranty issues. The manufacturers dont want to warranty fuel system issues if your running a bunch of old, poorly made bio. The 5% recomendation is way conservative, you can run nearly five percent of any other liquid and not do too much damage.

After reading about some of the failures and heartaches others have had... I wouldn't run ANY bio fuel until there are some regulated standards for producers to adhere to.

Well the Bio I can get is good Quality same as the state run's that's why I was asking from what I have seen they haven't had any major problem';s so I shouldn't either But I wanted to ask to see what types of problem's other's have had . Thank You to all that have reply'd

With out an extra f/w sep I wouldn't run more than B5, its just too much of a risk for your warranty.

I have run B20 before (actually on my 2nd tank if it now). My first tank gelled like nothing else, course it was -8 and -4!. But this tank is fine, my fp is higher and it seems a little quieter. I generally don't run it since its . 20-. 30 more where I live, but here in Az it was cheaper than #2.

If you are worried about the warranty then go with what the manual says.

There is NOTHING diefferent between a GOV pickup eng and a store bought truck eng. The whole 5% bio is Chrysler's mentality and their inability to understand anything good for the Cummins. Cummins says 20% bio is fine.

Since you have an 08 you should have ZERO filter clogging issues with excess crap in the tank and lines. I have 127,000 on my 04 and have run bio as high as B100 and never once have had to change the fiter any sooner.

There is a difference between fuel station bio and an inept back yard umpty brewer. If you brew your own and do it right, you will never have an issue even if you are using McDonald's fryer grease.

Well the B20 is from a very good source and it is used Daily so I am going to run it I spoke with the guy's that use it and they said they have had no problem's with any of the truck's or Equiptment that they run it in so everything should be fine . For the price it's worth a try besides as long as I have a extra fuel filter with me I am good to go

If your getting bio from a home brewer you just need to ask if hes testing to ASTM D 6751. You can check to make sure you batches meet this standard and if they do you, your not going to have any issues. Diesel fuel should meet ASTM D 975 but Ill bet you a dollar you can find places where you get Diesel that dont.

No there is not; however, in order for Fleet/GOVT to run B20 they have to have additional filtration. . now enter the $750 Severe Duty Filtration kit from dodge. . Or just add another f/w sep like the BF1212.

Well in Calif they have Nothing done to the truck's I have 2 Mech's as good friend's they do not special order there truck's

Sorry AH64ID, I didn't mean to quote you. I was saying that all as a general statement and not directed to you.

A home brewer doesn't need to follow the ASTM guidelines. ASTM is a voluntary standard to protect the retailers. Just the like the API symbol on the back of an oil bottle. The ASTM D6751 standard is for pure biodiesel (B100). Each states requirement for blended Bio is different. Some add more or other additives to meet the state's requirements.

No worries. . I was just pointing out that they are "required" to get the extra filtration to run B20.

I have B20 in my truck now, so I certainly have no issues with it... In fact I like what it does for my fuel pressure and my mileage appears to be on par with #2.

Yeah I know. It's to far of a drive for me to run B20 regularly. When I pass by Annapolis I fill up. In Fort Worth I ran it all the time. Anywhere from B5 to B100. B100 dropped my mileage about 4mpg. The HPCR doesn't play well with it. Truck ran great though.

This is only my second time running Bio. . My first tank was dead middle of winter and I topped it off with #1, so no real good results on mileage.

This one has me impressed so far. I was at 360 miles at a half tank, which on my truck means I am in the 19 range... Pretty good for B20.

B anything is expencive back home, but here it was cheaper ???
