Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Black smoke

Help!!!! Last few days truck started smoking bad. Slightest pressure on pedal and here comes the black smoke. Milage has gotten worse also. Can something have moved out of adjustment? It still seems to run pretty good, just smokes bad. Of all times for my mechanic to be out of town. Any sug

gestions on cause?
