Have to replace turn signal switch on my 03. Problems with putting left signal on and right one goes, or nothing happens or both go on. I assume I have to pull airbag and steering wheel to so this. What is the best way to tackle this ? I have new switch ready to install but thought I would seek out any pointers or info I could find to help eliminate "learning the hard way".

Here you go-- This worked on my 2005--

(1) remove the 2 screws which hold the plastic "clamshell" together behind the steering wheel (torx bit)

(2) Remove the steering wheel up/down lever (pull back towards the driver seat)

(3) Pull the top half of the clamshell up and the bottom half down, spreading it out around the ignition switch

(4) Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch by pulling back the red locking tab and then sliding the plug towards the front of the truck

(5) Remove the 2 phillips screws which hold the multifunction switch to the steering column (they are on the left side top and bottom, just next to where the switch stalk joins the switch body... NOTE--a right angle phillips screwdriver is REALLY helpful here). Then, depress the little grey tab in the center of the switch body while pulling along the stalk, strait towards the drivers door... it WILL slide right out.

Installation of the new switch would simply involve doing the above steps in the reverse order.

FYI -- The instructions above are from my post #33 at this thread, which actually continues on to tell you how to BOMB the switch so you can use your low, high and fog ALL at the same time (at last when no on is driving towards you -- :-laf ) to achieve MUCH better forwrad lighting without the use of A britebox. It is actually a GREAT mod if you like excellent forward lighting...

However, if you go to the thread below, Sag2 actually explains how you can likely repair the old switch either to reuse, or to use agin if the new one goes also starts acting funny--

Thanks Seafish, you're right on the money. Ignore the service manual instructions and follow my instructions. It's a much easier shortcut.

Thank you ! I purchased a new switch and it came as the whole assembly, never even looked at it to see the switch actually comes off the mounting ring ! . Glad I asked :D
