I have only recently started using my block heater, works well.

I noticed when I turn the key on to start my truck while the using the block heater, my grid heater does not come on. The light in the dash lights and then immediately goes out, as if it is 80* outside.

My question is, when you plug in the block heater, does this also activate the grid heater? Or, does the block heater do such a magnificent job, that the grid heater is not needed?

Not a dilemma, just curios. Jess

nope. it only runs the block heater. they arent connected in any way. you will notice that in a few seconds that the intake heater will come on after it senses air temp below xxF.

I am almost certain that it just does a good job because your light is coming on just as a light check but if you shorten the time that the heater is plugged in then like 3 hours before you start up it will stay on longer than just a light check but shorter than a completely cold truck.

Indeed, the grid heater is effective enough that the underhood temperature is sufficient to obviate a preheat cycle. Postheat usually still runs, though.

When it gets really cold or there's a strong wind blowing into the engine compartment, the preheat will still come on even with block heat.

Thanks for the input! I know the block heater is keeping my whole underhood warm, you ought to see the icecicles(sp) hanging off the front of my truck:-laf.
