Did a search, is putting a plate on exhaust manifold and at EGR valve still the way to go? Do I then leave the EGR tube off? Saw where some have solved the CEL after doing this. But the instructions were unclear to me. Guess I can live with a CEL for a while, but I can no longer live the thought of all that soot and what its doing.

TIA Mike

we removed the egr tube and blocked it off at the manifold, removed and plugged the vac lines and switched intake horns on a friends 98 12v with no ses light on at all or anything different then normal operation except peace of mind knowing all that crap wasnt going into the intake.

Thanks for the reply Signal73. Pluging the vacume lines might keep the light off. I'm going to give it a try this weekend if all goes well.

Thanks again,

Mike

The EGR equiped trucks use the IAT to test for proper operation. When the EGR turns on the IAT should increase at least 10*, if not the CEL is set.

With Jay's (jtwcummins) guidance I set up a diagram of a fix for the CEL using a relay and resistors. If you want it, PM me.

Dan

Thank you jtwcummins, hopefully blocking the vacume lines will keep the EGR valve from opening and keep the IAT from looking for a temp difference. I have the manual and have read the "EGR DESCRIPTION AND OPERATOIN" twice I think I will have to read it a couple more times with it setting under the hood.

From what I understand of this, I can block the exhaust then live with the CEL until I get that figured out, from the forum search, block the EGR intake also to improve boost. A new intake horn would be nice to improve flow.

I see you are from Minden, I have a good buddy in Washoe. We are in the area quite a bit.

Thanks again

Mike
