I own a 01 HO and at some, not all red lights i get some blow by when idle under the hood. Is this normal or what ? My 1992 CTD does not do this. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

I'm assuming its coming out from the breather bottle from the front of the engine. If so its totally normal, they all do it. I would recommend eliminating the breather bottle and relocate the hose further back and under the truck. Do a search on breather bottle or vent tube, you will find plenty of info. Eventually those breather bottles fill up with oily residue and start spilling and blowing all over the motor making a mess.

Nothing to worry about though.

I have an 01 HO, and I eliminated the breather bottle by adding on a few extra feet of 3/4" heater hose and now the tube ends a few inches below my front axle. Mine almost always blows a very fine mist that is noticeable any time I am sitting stopped and idling.

As was also said, at night it is a scary sight, but completely normal. Just keep a close eye on your oil level say every weekend, and most likely you will never notice the loss.

From what I hear, don't put any kind of restriction on it or you'll overpressure some very expensive engine seals. Got this from a very reliable mechanic who worked on two different trucks that partial or complete restrictions on the hose... was very expensive.
