Guage cluster problems

injector question

The blow by tube on my rig has been dry for a while and it seems that oil is starting to find its way around the pan gasket.

Is the vent tube open to the crankcase or is there a screen or something that can get gunk blocked? The tube itself seems to be clear.

I know I'll have to take it off to look, just curious what is there.

Just one of those, "I should check that" things.

Thanks any thoughts.

It's plugged. Give me your engine.

At the point where the hose connects to the tappet (lifter) cover, there is a box like portion on that cover. It contains an oil screen w/drain. If it was open it would blow out a bit more oil I suppose. The injection pump most likely has to be removed to remove that lifter cover. I have had to in the past to replace the gasket behind the cover. Now it leaks worse than it used to :( I don't mind that so much but I have these relatives who have a cement drive way and are led to believe that if a vehicle leaks oil, it's in poor shape and should not be on the road, much less parked on the cement drive.

They have $$ and buy new cars every couple years.

:( :-{}

My thoughts... ...

OK, I'll mail you the engine. I have to warn you that it has almost 60,000 miles on it and the previous owner used to wipe down the engine, top to bottom on a regular schedule.

Thanks for the info.

Probably had to park it time to time @ a rich Uncle's or Sepfather's drive way

  :-laf :(

Oil leaks on gravel are as close as I can get to a paved driveway.

Didn't know if the unvented pressure would be a problem for seals and gaskets here and there. Taking that cover off doesn't look like fun. Have to poke around.

Thanks

Sure it's unvented? operate the engine and you will see a very slight haze from the end of the tube. May have to heat the engine up. I have had a few of these covers off and never has it been plugged in any way. There is just some black oil in/around that vent screen and drain... ... .....

Operate the engine and see what for blow-by is escaping out of the oil fill when you remove it. It will normally be a very light pressure emitting from the hole.

From what you say it sounds like it is probably not plugged. Dosen't sound like it could easily get plugged on the inside from normal use.

It does seep a lot from gaskets, but maybe that is the price of limited use. It dosen't move much.

Thanks for the details. I can't run it until I finish up a few things but I'd bet you are correct.

Maybe I'll get my Jeepster inside and start messing with that instead of the Cummins.

The school bus engines are used daily and seep oil from EVERY gasket. They are a mess. If I reseal the pan and front cover assy, they begin to leak right away.

Game-On, Bro!

Bring it, JAY!

I'll crop your witty humor off at the knees, slap-shot you w/Pastor Bob's stick and send you crawling back home to your wife's arms, never to show your name in these forums again.

Ok. No longer concerned about the seeping. Thanks

Don't chase Jay away, I need an engineer to advise me on a water meth system.

Hmmm... I happen to have a pump ;) that supposedly does 60 psi. Hmmm...

Jay, Soon as I get the 4" turbo intake hooked up and outside temps get up, (6 degrees here) thats next.

If my wife found all the parts for a water meth system under the tree with her name on them.....

Ohhh I love it.

You know you really are a red neck when you buy gifts for the spouce that you intend to use. Say, ear rings that double as fishing lures.

Her;"What's this hun"

Him;"It be a piston lift pump for YOUR truck"

Keep this a secret:

Pull a camper with your truck and your wife will fund the power upgrades. You will however, really have to take her places from time to time.

My favorite is; "But honey, I'm always late for work because some guy in a ford won't let me by!" :(

Maybe if I found a camper under the tree... ... ...
