Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Blown trans

Well I've finally had it with my auto trans.



Fried it while towing my trailer, 48ft race car trailer 18k lbs 10 ft tall.



Had the lock up kicking in and out prior to the fry it had several other problems as well, sometimes it would not down shift into 1st sometimes it would not upshift to 2nd. After the fry it shifts althe way to OD and goes into lockup by 30 mph.



Does anyone have any information on swapping transmissions.



I am thinking about either a allison or a 6spd.



Does anyone make a conversion kit for these swaps?



Any info on how switching to a 6spd would effect the computer



Any input would be a great help.

Just get a built 47RE it should handle what your doing. Probably be cheaper and easier too.

I found a couple deals on here for 5 or 6 speeds for a fair price.



I was going to pick a setup up, had everything, clutch, trans, t Case, driveshafts, pedal, etc for $3000... but I decided not to case I really don't feel like doing all that work!

The trans I just fried was a "built" trans.



It had all the "good" parts, extra clutches, Valve body, Billet torque converter etc.



I was never real happy with it.



I won't say who's trans it was because I don't want to start a big discussion.





I'm just trying to avoid buying a new truck.

For a trailer that size, pull it behind the 6500?
