I was just wondering it seems that most everyone out there is using either the PE EZ or PE Comp boxs. Is anyone using the new blue chip box, if so how do you like it?

Les

Les, I've been using a beta unit of the premium FMS box for the past 5 months with good results. I've included a response I made about it a while back below. The company that sell them is OK, but not outstanding in terms of customer service. I ordered the production model about 3 months ago and have called several times to inquire on a ship date and have been told essentially the same thing each time - should be any day, and most recently - they started shipping this week and that was almost a month ago. So in summary, great product, performs as advertised, company is lacking on the support end of things.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I've been using one (a beta - premium) for the past 4 months. It's worked flawlessly and I like the 63 levels of adjustment. The settings to fine tune smoke control have changed in the production unit, so I can't tell you about those - but supposedly better. I made several suggestions to Blue Chip, we'll see if they took me up on them. What I wanted to see was the ability to save 1 or 2 level in memory as it takes the better part of 10 seconds to ramp the level from 1 to 63% and to switch the unit from automatic defueling to "drag race mode", so by then the opportunity to inform the poor misguided PSD/DM owner of their poor choice in trucks has past. Beyond little things like that, it has been great, probably adds about 100HP like the other "hot" fueling boxes. I've not had mine on the dyno, but it reduced my 0-60 times from 7. 4 seconds to 6. 1 seconds all else being the same.

Oh, one more thing. This box uses a large ScotchLok connector that will leave an indelible mark on the fuel solenoid wire on the injection pump and will likely lead to voiding of warranty if that sort of thing matters to you

Kurt, How hard is it to install this box. Also does it eliminate the need for separate gauges of any kind even a fuel presure gauge. Any idea what the cost might be. Because if all you needed was this box and maybe a BHAF and 4" exhaust bang for your buck this might be the hot ticket.

Thanks, Les

PSST, HEY..... TST's Comp box with a custom fuel map beat the Blue Chip in Dyno tests, on Briar Hoppers truck at Schied's this year.

that makes two times, if your counting. :D :D

but it only has 10 levels to play with.

TDK, I think I was clear that I had the Premium FMS box, it has 63 fueling levels from 1-63% in 1% increments.

Les, installation is similar to other fueling boxes, two wires to the injection pump - one pierces the injection pump fuel solenoid wire. Also plugs into the MAP sensor harness to among other things read boost pressure for the digital gauge. Pyrometer thermocouple requiring tapping drilling manifold or turbo exit, and power and dashlight connections at the fuse box. The fuel pressure feature only warns of pressure below 5psi in the production model. This is not operational on my beta unit. The other things to consider is that the addition of 100+ HP will be too much for a stock clutch or auto and will need upgrading as well, and tapping into the injection pump fuel solenoid wire will likely void your engine/drive train warranty if discovered by DC.

Todd, I hadn't heard of these, care to provide more data?

this, from Diesel-Central

W2MP2L,

this was posted shortly after the event. and the first time was at Muncie, earlier this year. Where I was present.

"Robert Swartz of Blue Chip Diesel approached me again while at Scheid, about another dyno shootout between TST and Blue Chip, using the latest programs. I agreed to do it, and it drew quite a crowd to watch... What else I had on my truck was: stock Hx40 16cm2, DD3 injectors, unhooked the VanAaken unhooked the propane. Repeat: No VA, no propane.

Final results:TST won, 453HP, 1144 ft. lbs. This is with the PowerMax3 box I run on the street every day, and it had just been re-programmed by Mark Chapple in an effort to get rid of the turbo lag from the Hx40 (yes, it worked)

Blue Chip box, in "race" program: 432HP, 1087ft. lbs. At Thunder in Muncie,in the first shootout, I had 445 HP, 1232ft. lbs. with the Blue Chip box.

Keep in mind that Blue Chip has a VERY, VERY good product, and I support them fully ! Their box is USER-programmable, where TST is not. It also has more features. (whether you need or want those features is what determines which box you should get) I have my own reasons for preferring to run TST, not the least of which is that I'm only a 2 hour drive from TST's shop. The fueling curves and duty cycle on the TST also seem to be more easily programmed than the Blue Chip, with TST you have a graph with infinite adjustments, with Blue Chip, it's buttons on the box itself.

I also want to apologize to Brett and Taylor of Edge Products , and Van Haisley of JVD Engineering for not trying their boxes on my truck. It was easily more dyno runs than I wanted to make, and I was advised against it by several people I prefer not to name(who had my interests & finances at heart). In retrospect, it would have been great if we could have found another truck set up identically to mine, 2 boxes on each truck...

You absolutely can't go wrong with Edge Products, I still love their stuff, enough that I regret not having it on my truck right now. It was great to have them with us at the Scheid rally.

The JVD boxes I have no experience with, but the Ohio 24valve gang seems to be very partial to it, they have really strong pulling trucks and are winning every weekend... "

ToddT, does the PM3 have a defueling feature? Also can all of these boxs be stacked on a VA/CPC. And also if you already have gauges will the PE Comp and PM2 give you just as much hp as the PM3 or the blue chip FMS just not all the bells and whistles.

thanks, Les

that was a mouthful, there Six.

the VA stacking I dont know, I think you can though.

the PM3 COMP defuels at 3000RPM's or can be customized to whatever, the standard PM3 defuels at 2700 and is back to stock by 3200.

the TST COMP box is what Briar and some others have. it is for serious power not the faint at heart. yes it can be stacked although you wont need to. Tom (Briar Hopper)usually runs one or the other but not both.

the PM2 is the same power output as the 3, but no adjustablility. the PM3 NON-Gauged, is the one you would want. it simply has a little remote that you turn the power up and down with, you would use your own guages seperate. it is what I have. I keep it in the ashtray. :D

the PE comp is a excellent box, its just that I had the TST box before the PE Comp came out. If given the chance some day I will through it on and try it.

I will caution you on this. the TST Comp is again, for serious power. level 3 or 4 of it, is like level 8 or 9 of the standard box. make sure, that is what you want and have the truck prepared for it, if you go with the Competition version.

I have had Blue Chip's Premium FMS for about two months. I absolutely love it. It is very well made, and works as advertised. I especially like the ability to defuel once your breach a certain EGT. Great for when we tow our 5th wheel. I now have a Torque Dog (Diablo Power Puck) installed as well. The timing adjustment on the TD has really helped coming off the line. So far it seems to be a very compatible combination. I'm sure the others are all very good, but I love this FMS. Another great product purchased from Andy and Doug at A. D. T.

:D :D :D

This box is an excellent product, and I have had excellent product support with all the employees at blue chip diesel. This box has an extremely smooth power curve even when it is turned all the way up, and the smoke control works extremely well. I don't have much time to post but if you would like some more info give me a call at (918) 810-7060.

Just a quick note, the TST box will stack with the Edge EZ, I've been running this combo for a while and there is a considerable seat O pant's difference with the TST box on even with the ETH. My favorite is level 6, anything beyond that is very radical  .

I recently purchased and installed the FMS box and pusher pump / fuel line upgrade from ADT. The guys at ADT have super customer service. I would buy from them again. My version of the FMS box was badged as a Bully Dog product. I received the FMS box 3-4 days after I ordered it. It is a “major fueling box and will void the warranty”. The install of both systems went very well. The wires that need to be scotch locked are relatively easy to find once you start looking. I fed the wires through the firewall and mounted the box under the dash. It is recommended to mount the box on top of the dash because the large amount of available information poses a significant distraction. The premium version is more expensive than the other boxes. I chose the box because I liked the style of the display and wanted a fueling box that would automatically defuel for high EGT and also let me know exactly what it was doing. The other boxes out there have great reputations and it doesn’t sound like someone could make a bad choice. I have not fully tested the box yet but so far I am impressed. It is exactly what I was waiting for. It has been very smooth. I am not in the lower gears long enough to do anything but shift. The FMS will stack with the timing boxes like Patriot Diesel’s and Highperf360’s set up. It has an option so that you can tell it whether or not you have a timing box and how aggressive it is. I am waiting for the Mad ECM to come out before I make a timing box decision. On the negative side the FMS + timing box is a way more expensive way to go versus the edge comp box if all you want is fuel and timing.

For the record, Tom's box is not a TST comp box - it's halfway between a street box and a comp box. It has the street level of fueling (max 50%, comp box is 100%), but doubles that to 100% on the low end (to get the HX40 spooled up), has the duty cycle of the solenoid set to 65% max (same as the comp box, the street box has a max of 55%), and the RPM limit set to 3200 rpm. It was set up that way because the higher levels were (6-9) were unneeded and Tom was concerned about the longevity of his VP44. By turning up the duty cycle the fueling doesn't taper off towards the top of the rev range (it levels off at about 2700 rpm, but doesn't defuel). The big blast of fuel down low is to spool the turbo faster. I have the same thing in my truck but the max duty cycle for the solenoid is set at 70% (not recommended because it's into the danger zone for melting the fuel solenoid), I did that because with my 4. 10 gears I'm past 2700 rpm in 5th gear before the end of the quarter mile and I wanted that little bit extra at the end - I don't run it up there very often.

Sixspeed, if you get the PM3 with the gauge remote you can set a peak EGT to defuel at. It has approximately a 5 second delay before it defuels. When I'm towing my trailer I leave it on level 7 (same as I use unloaded on the street) and set the EGT limit to 1200 degrees. It will spike up to 1420 or so during that 5 second delay and then it defuels to bring it down to 1200 - works great.

thanks Steve, for the clarification. I did in my first post state that it was done on a comp with a custom fuel map, but what you have added is great to have.

Thanks for all of your replies. I think that a major fueling box and injectors are in my near future. Well maybe a South Bend Clutch first. I still have some questions about the PM3 and FMS boxes. Because I would like to keep using my same gauges but don't know how it all would tie together. What a great country this is that we have all these choices. :)

Les

I wanted to keep my analog gauges as well. How we did it on my truck is we ran another set of lead wires to the thermocouple from the TST harness (so there are two sets of lead wires hooked to the thermocouple, one for my analog gauge and one for the TST box) - checked it out with both sets connected as well as one and got basically the same reading (about 20 degrees low as I remember it). For the boost thats read from the MAP sensor on the TST box. I'm sure that the FMS box could be hooked up the same way.
