Blue Chip FMS-More questions!

Hi guys, more questions for you. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I know the basics of power for the diesel engine but I am new to the BOMBing aspects. Fuel plus air equals power, but I am confused on some other things, especially the Blue Chip FMS Premium, plus injectors.

1) Can someone explain how fueling boxes work with a stock engine and also in conjunction with a timing box? Will the timing box clean up the smoke from the fueling box?

2) If the Blue Chip can give the engine 63% more fuel, how much fuel will the engine actually burn both with stock and stage 2 or 3 injectors? Obviously more with the bigger injectors, but how much precentage wise? How much is being burned and how much is going toward the "black cloud"?

3) How much power could I expect with the Blue Chip, 4" exhaust, open element filter, and stock injectors, opposed to the same setup but with stage 2s or 3s?

4) If Injector ABC adds XYZ power to a stock engine to get XYZ+stock power, would adding a box add box power, injector power, plus stock power? Or would the combo cause the injectors to be less?

Let me give an example. If ABC injector adds 120 HP to 235 HP engine, the combo would be around 350 HP. Would adding a fueling box with 150 HP put the engine at about 500 HP or less?

5) Would a fueling box such as the Blue Chip plus a timing box be ideal? Or is injectors and a fueling box better, if I don't mind the smoke?

Thanks very much!!!!!

Hey Nick, hows it going man?

There a quite a few guys on here running the FMS, see if TMTT can chime in, I know he has it.

You should be able to run all the juice thru it that you want with stock injectors, it just wont have quite the kick it has with bigger showerheads. The 2 biggest problems I think you will see with your truck right off the bat with any major box is Fuel Pressure and EGT's might be a little hairy. I cant remember if you have upgraded exhuast yet or not, that'll help you fight the EGT problem I am having right now.

You are welcome to try it out on your rig if you would like, maybe an upcoming wrench day (in the works) would work, its kinda a bear to get in an out but I can do it in about 1/2 hour or less now a days. You wouldnt be able to get EGT's obviously but the box will work for power though.

To answer your ? on what injectors work best with this my answer is... ... the bigger the better :D :D :D

Watch out Nick, you are about to head down a really slippery slope. :D :D The bombin bug bites and it doesnt ever stop!!

Thanks for the invite to try out your box. I would love to try it on the next wrench day. When is it going to be anyway? I will be there wherever and whenever it is.

As for my truck it is only straight piped. I want to get 4 inch turbo back and AFE or other BHAF filter.

Thanks a lot Jeff.

NIck, not sure of the date yet, I am trying to get the ok from the guy that has the shop but he is outta town for a few days.

Its a fun deal, we'll find out what your clutch has left in it. :D

I can throw you some numbers on the box, then box plus injectors.

Stock 210/454

DDUFM 343/799 or 133 added(DD claims 120 for this box on ETC. )

DD3's 296/621 or 86 added (DD3 "rated" 100hp).

DDUFM and DD3's 415/952 for 205 additional HP, BUT I am pushing more fuel than I am burning.

Big turbo should bring me up at least 50 more HP with the exact same fuel as I have now.

Wildcat Max Flow kit used for fuel flow.

SBC 12. 25 OFE getting it to the transmission.

BHAF soon to be replaced with Scotty.

5" sewer pipe evacuating the soot. :D

Hmmm... Let me give this a shot.

1. Fueling boxes work the same with a stock or a bombed engine, they add fuel. Now, to what extent they get the fuel to the engine can depend on more things like the size of injector, fuel lines, etc... But in basic theory they all tell the VP44 to add some more juice. I had an EZ on my truck for a few miles (thanks sticks!) and it did help clean up a little smoke factor, where I really noticed the difference was right off the stoplight, there was a little more punch to it.

2. Thats a tough one, maybe someone with a little more expertise could help out. I do know when you are talking about the smoke factor that directly correlates to how much air you can get to the engine, bigger turbo= less smoke and more power. Spoolup is a different story though

3. I should be able to give you a better answer in a few weeks on different injectors with power to the ground. But with 275's, the FMS, and BHAF, and stock transmission I dumped 378 RWHP (corrected #'s unfortunately) so all in all it was probably more like 325'ish. Havent ran yet with the 3's but I am anxious too. I am going to guess with The FMS and the stuff you mentioned you'll be over the 300 mark and might come in around 315.

4. Box and injectors work real nice together!! :D :D The guy to ask would be Chip himself, he is really nice and helpful. Give em a ring. I cant tell you exponentially what injectors and a box do, but my buttdynameter can!! :D :D

5. Personally, I dont think the straight fueling box smokes all that much more if anymore at all then a timing + fueling box. There are alot of guys on here running comps and drag comps so that'll say something but then again there are alot of guys running fueling only boxes like the TST, or the FMS. You might lose a little EGT's with the timing added in but how much might be 75 degrees.

Hope this helps some, study study study and ask lots of questions and then make your decsion, your doing it the smart way. Also try and fiquire out where you want to go HP wise, trust me I didnt and its way cheaper if you do :{

I have an Edge Comp and am about to hook up the 'pump' wire at the brand new VP44. Since I'm out of warranty now, I was wondering if the 'Blue Chip' Cover plate is a better hookup for the wire than 'Granger Supply's' 'Grabber,' which was working fine on my 98K failed VP44? I still have 2 grabbers which is the same as the TST grabber.

I personally really like the Blue Chip Plate, very good connection. I had a TST P. G. and gave it away on the Pay it Forward.
