Has anyone ever cracked the circuit board with their BC cover??

What are the symptoms????

could it set a 0253 code ???? (fuel pump fuel valve open circuit)

I have not, but I asked Chip the same question when I got mine last Janurary. I think it could be pretty easy to over tighten the contact pins and either crack the board under the signal pin or push the ground pin through the board. Chip agreed that one needs to be quite carful, but I don't want to put words in his mouth. I usually give him a call when I think I have a problem around the pump or cover... he hasn't failed me yet.

I THINK I had that code and it ended up being a loose wire on the cover, or one of the pins through the cover needed a 1/4 turn in or the factory fuel pump wiring connection was loose... something simple. :) I can also see how it might also be a cracked board setting the same code. :(

Any other symptoms?

It is pretty easy to find out if it was cracked... just pull off the cover and look. It should only take 15 minutes for the entire job (pull throttle body and intake neck for room, then carefully loosen lock nuts on pins and back off 2 turns, then remove cover, and inspect board closely. Then, based on what you find, either keep pulling the rest of the pump off (after ordering the new one), or re install the cover ant turn the contacts back in untill you feel a LITTLE resistance, but no more than 2 and 1/4 turns, snug the lock nuts, and put the rest of the parts back on. If you have a FMS, you will know you are in fact tight enough because you will get the "fuel pump ok" mesage on the box. )

I called Chip and he said it wont run at all if you crack it

but what if its such a slight crack that temperature change causes a loss of connection.

I hope this isnt the case but im exploring all options

check my other thread for all the symptoms I have

(stumble revisited)

What is an FMS???

I havent used the "ground connection" only the red wire

When I first put it on I had to give an extra 1/2 turn than the 2 1/2 to get connection

I removed the cover about a month ago when my problems showed up and reinstalled it and had to give about 1/4 turn more than before to get connection (total of 3 1/4 turns)

I didnt know I could remove enough stuff to really see if I cracked it but I will try

thanks for the info

and the bad news is you'll be buying another pump as they do not sell replacement boards... I know of one that had this same thing happen to it

Running pre hook up and DOA after... pin through the wire to direct ground and fried the electronics of the Injector pump... sounds like you went even further than he did to crack the plate

OK, yes it won't run if you really cracked it. but you could have a hairline that would open close with heat or cold/ vibration, etc.

the above being true, the cone shape of the pin (red wire) should open the crack more each time you run it in further, and your problem would have gotten worse, immediatly.

Knowing that you have already taken it apart, I wouldn't bother taking it apart again.

good on finding another ground point

FMS= Blue Chips Fuel Management System... I don't know exactly how it compares to the other fuel enhancers the members are running, but I like it. low fuel press warning, auto defueling if pyro temp too high, adjustable fueling levels, adjustable fuel curves (smoke), in one box. It was my first and best mod... learned a lot from it.

Looking for your other post, will get back to you.

the problem didnt get any worse the second time I installed it and I didnt notice any breaks when I took it off the first time

these problems started when an incompetent tech did a reflash so I am still pointing the finger to the ecm

just being thorough (some call it anal)

We have had stumble problems on a FMS install. After testing all connections and consulting with Chip we fixed it by hooking up the ground to the Ground wire for the VP44. Chip said that some of the VP44 are getting upset when connecting the ground else where. I would ask Chip which wire to ground to. After the Fix the FMS works great. Great Product - Great customer service...

called chip

He said "it is impossible to crack the board with the fuel wire"

"it is possible to crack it with the ground wire"

I am not using the ground wire, therefore, he said I have a bad pump:{

I have had to snug up the pins on my pump cover twice. Once after about 2 weeks after installing the cover, my fueling box was intermittent so I gave both pins about 1/3 to about 1/2 turn in. The other time was in the process of fixing a stumble problem. Other than that it's been working great!

I got the 0253 and 0252 codes when I installed mine back in Jan. I called Blue Chip and was told not to worry about cracking the board just tighten the screw a little more, I was still a little hesitant. I called Edge, I was using their box, They said they had experienced the same problems when usin the cover, they said turn the screw about another 1/8 to 1/4 turn. I tried that and it solved the problem until last Wednesday, it is stumbling again but with no codes. I plan on trying to retighten tonight. The good news is that after the problem is corrected the CEL will turn itself off.

I got a little impatient

-had cummins (not dodge) reflash ecm (this cured all problems)

-got new updated edge comp box (my ufm had a white sticker and edge told me I should update to the silver label)

WHY DIDNT DD TELL ME THIS WHEN I SENT IN MY UFM 2 MONTHS AGO?????????????

-replaced cover with pm grabber (dont think cover was the problem because I got the codes with out the ufm hooked up)

pickup runs great , no codes yet, no stumbling

smoooooooth as silk and lots of smoke

:D :D

a very big thank u goes out to

Rod @ wildcat

Aaron @ edge products

Mike and Russ @ rocky mtn cummins

thank u thank u thank u

you guys saved me from buying a new pumpOo.

i took the ecm off the side of the motor and sent it to them

if you do this you will get codes when you hook it back up

you will have to get a dodge dealer to clear them

they did a complete re program (they call it a re calibration)

in theory any cummins dealer should be able to do this but not very many of them are willing to help

keep in mind this may not help all the stumble problems you read about on the tdr

these stumbles can be caused by many different things

exhaust all other possibilities before re flashing a computer
