Greetings, this is my first post to the board, although I have been lurking and trying my best to learn what I can. I have finally decided to bomb my recently purchased cummins, however I wanted to confirm my bombing order with some of the experienced folks here. Here is what I have come up with that seems reasonable for a first effort:

1. PowerEdge EZ (seemed to offer a little more than the VA with the same ease of use, that and I just purchased it 5 minutes ago)

2. Gauges... Boost and Exhaust + pillar mount, still debating over the trans temp.

My questions are as follows, with these simple upgrades am I putting my truck at any risk? I guess warrantee issues are not a problem since my truck recently crossed the 36k mark (or is it up to 100k on the cummins?), but I wanted to make sure I dont end up shelling out 3k for a new automatic transmition.

From what I have gathered, the EZ installation is well. . easy. but the gauges are probably not as cut and dry. Will a novice such as myself be able to do this? I am not afraid to get my hands dirty, but I dont want to break anything.

Finally, I have been toying around with the idea of a 4 inch exhaust and new injectors (when my wallet refills after this first upgrade at least) Will all these upgrades play nice with each other? Thanks for killing off a few of these really basic questions!

PS. Just got my first issue, I hope they are all as informative.

Hi ADAM let me be the first to welcome you to the TDR!
You will be very impressed with the EZ - you will say to yourself "This is enough, I don't need any more power". That will last about a month. Then you will say to yourself "I've heard the injectors can give a boost in fuel mileage, I think I'll get some, but it's not for more power, I'll earn the price back in fuel savings" This mod will last a couple more months. By then you will have convinced yourself that the EGT's are hurting your engine and you need the exhaust to be "safe". At this point you are putting stuff on a secret credit card your wife doesn't know about. After the exhaust goes in and you enjoy it for a while you will wake up one day, look at your face in the mirror and admit to yourself that it's no use resisting any more. By the time you have been on this board and BOMBing your truck for a year, you will be telling newbies the same thing I'm telling you now #ad
Trust me we've all been there. Welcome abourd and have FUN with that great truck of yours!

Arcticat:

That was a GREAT EXPLANATION of what
happens when you BOMB. The part about
the "secret credit card" REALLY hit
home!!!

Good job!

Adam, most defiantly start with the gauges before you do anything else, they will give you an indication of what your bombing has done after you develop a stock baseline. The hardest part for me on gauge installs has been threading the wires though the fire wall,no big deal. Anyone with common hand tools and the ability to follow directions can install gauges.

CLorox... put the gauges in first to establish a baseline of what you have stock. Don't be too concerned over their install( I was also, but after I did it myself I was very satisfied). I'm sending you an e-mail that explains the gauge install(fairly generic, but has alot of good tips). For me, the hardest part was drilling into that brand new manifold for the pre-turbo egt gauge. Once I got over the drilling part, the rest is real easy, just take your time and you won't have a problem. This board is full of great advice, take some time and do a search for more helpful advice. By the way, WELCOME ABOARD !!!!

Arcticat... you really hit home with that #ad

Ooops... you don't have a e-mail address listed. Send me a e-mail and I'll send you that gauge install guide.

Howdy CLorox,

You missed issue 30? It said what you've already heard...

baseline,
baseline,
baseline,

and don't forget, baseline.

Hey Articat,

You forgot the secret mailbox for the not so secret bill and the secret checking account to pay it and the secret job to earn money to cover the checks.

Kinda like legal crack. Better seek out BOMBER's anomyous. #ad

Oops, too late. What silencer ring? (More fun than my 98 SST)

After this overwhelming pro-gauge / learn your baseline response, I will be ordering some brand new shiny gauges on Monday, SPA Techniques. Hopefully that will keep me occupied for a good long while #ad

Finally, you guys have me scared. I can already see the dent I put in my credit card after buying the EZ, and I have a feeling it will be getting a lot bigger. Do you all have more than 1 job to support your addiction? Maybe I should take up plowing this winter hehe.

Articat, you are a prophet. I am currently going though this syndrome as you described.
I got my truck in October and up until last month I was able to fight off the Bombing syndrome. I was very happy with my truck even though it was still "bombing challenged". Then it happened. It started out innocently enough with a cup smoothie and chrome tip from Genos. Then, mud flaps and a ME kit, and air filter. Silly me, I thought I could control it.

My wife asked me why the UPS truck was starting to appear at our house. Truck stuff, I said. Her response was "that truck is only three months old, why does it need new parts allready?" I knew I could never explain the bombing theory so I didn't even try.

Since I am an admitted Fordaholic, I knew deep down inside that I was weak. So when the bomb bug hit, I wasn't able to fight it off. Is there a cure?

Well, I completely caved on Thursday. My Psychotty Air and Tru Torque module from Diesel Dynamics will be here on Monday.

Things I have learned so far:
A secret credit card works great for bombing.
I have things shipped to work instead of home address.

P. S. Since personal responsibility is not a common practice here in California, I told my wife that you guys are the ones who are responsible. #ad

Well after my visit to Diesel Dynamics this week, I think I got a needle in my arm, #ad
and I too have become a BOMBaholic. You better get a hold of Bill K at DTT and upgrade that trans, or your wife will wonder why your truck doesn't run. #ad

Joe Donnelly, where are you? There's a new BOMBer who may need your set of classic warnings.

you're generally OK until you start referring to your Diesel shop of choice as "the clinic", or to the personnel there as "my therapist", my "power broker",etc, and a visit as a "consultation"
