You need a push to break switch. Drill the door seal flange and mount it that way. It will look like something like the third switch down on this first link. What this switch does is break the power feed in the pushed configuration. When the switch is allowed to push out it closes and lets power threw.

Don't forget to put a regular toggle switch to kill the circuit when you need into the box.

If you want it to beep just add a heavy duty turn signal flashing into the power feed.

While I TOTALLY agree with the idea of doing some real harm to a thief, it is absolutely against the law (in the Bleeding heart USA) to set a trap for a human. You can wind up in jail and worse. Remember that if you want justice go to a cat house. If you want to get screwed, go to a court house.

Lights, camera and heavy duty locks are the only legal means of securing your property.

You could get some permanant die and place it on a few tools that you never use. Or even look into the UV die that banks use on robbers. WHen the tool box is open, it covers them with it. The liability I see about that is that them getting startled could make them fall out fo the truck. Why not see about a digital camera with a remote trigger??

I think I saw some of those motion detecting cameras for hunters at Wal-Mart for not too much money. Set the horns and a camera and if you're lucky you'll get to show the picture of the surprised perp. in court. Sweet. :-laf
