I installed a boost gauge today, but the nylon tubing got a little kink in it. It appears to be ok, but the boost is different then I expected it to be. I guess I am asking: what is normal?
Most of the time, I register no boost until I grab 3rd gear, than i can get some. It maxes out at ~27psi in 5th@high rpm. I also see NO boost under most normal driving conditions. Only when I dip into the fuel do I see it rise. Typical cruise @70MPH I get about 6psi-- just barely off zero. Any kind of deceleration it will dive to zero. The gauge is a 0-60psi Autometer.
I guess this is normal, as it makes sense that the engine will only boost when it's under load. More load= more boost, right?
I just want to see if my install went well, since the EGT didn't (see other thread). Murphy's Law, you know?
I am surmising that I won't see any boost numbers over 25-27ish since I am running around empty.
I tapped the intake horn just under the dipstick (in the back) with 1/8"NPT. Wasn't too hard to take the horn and heater grid assembly off. (have 10mm, will travel
Thanks
