What is the reason for measuring boost? Why should I care what the boost is? I understand the reason for measuring EGT and transmission... . high temperature is bad. I'm sure there is a good reason I should install another gage that I stare at while driving.

Good question, I know if boost drops like from an intake boot leak then EGT's can rise but if you have the EGT gauge you would still be warned to back off and seat of pants feel should tell you if you have a leak.

For a daily driver it may not be needed but if your into mods and monitoring how they are all stacking up then you would need one.

I am sure someone here can come up with a good reason so I can find a spot for it in my truck but for now its just a SPA EGT/Trans Temp gauge.

If you are modified enough to reach over about 45 psi... look out headgasket:eek:

Also, like Matt said, boost leaks equate to inefficiency.

My boost gage suddenly started to read 24psi at WOT. Some may say that is good... ... . not on a stock truck. After checking the codes, sure enough..... over-boost code! Brought it to the dealer with 1 week left on my 5yr/100,000 warranty. Problem with the wastegate and they don't bother screwing with it. Ordered me a NEW turbo on their dime. :D That gage told me something wasn't right before it cost me a ton of $$. Also found some play in the impeller bearing that I would not have seen otherwise, until it blew up.

A boost guage basically is a way of monitoring how much load is on the engine. A boost guage is nice to have when towing, especially if you are bombed because on high HP trucks you would not notice if your truck is working hard. :)

My son gave me a boost gauge and a three pod pillar for my birthday:cool: I'll be installing the whole bunch after I buy an EGT and transmission temp gauge.

I've got the exaust and air intake. After the gauges are installed I'll be ready for the Edge!!! Hold me back.
