I wonder what's different about that pump? How come we have never heard of a 24v dragster that runs 8 seconds???

I'm only a 12V guy:)

The experts are Don Ramer & Clint Cannon at ATS in Denver @ 303-431-7973

Call them, they are "good guys"

Can someone get some info on this new pump? This seems to be a good pmp. Any more info on the auto transmission would be good to. Seems that ATS knows what they are doing. Keep up the good work of posting this excellent info.

The pump mentioned is nearly impossible to obtain. I'd have one otherwise.

Note the torched cylinder is #6. That's the one that goes from too much heat.

That would be fun....

Man that pump would be so much fun, if it were dependable.

HAVC,

You would think that Bosch might give you one to test with all that power you got. ;) Send them an e-mail, and let me know if you get any results!!!:D

Don Ramer over at ATS sent me an email I tought you guys might be interested in.

Remember, that melted Cummins piston picture is an ATS customer running Stage III injectors & came to ATS for a rebuild. It has nothing to do w/ the VR6 that they are testing.

Dear Mike,

Clint gave me one of your e-mails due to the fact that the info on this pump is on my truck. The two trucks are a 1998 12 valve 2500 ram 4x4 quad cab, this truck is Clint's. The second truck is a 2001 24-valve 2500 ram 4x4 quad cab, this is my personal truck. The idea is that we always keep working on new things for both engines. The questions that you have asked were; what kind of times was I able to run with the VR6 pump? The pumps mechanical ability is wide open as far as we know, this means that when you go to wide open fuel and than let off very fast it will not starve the fuel pump plate inside from lack of lube. This problem was what some of the early pumps had. Bosch built this pump for a man that runs them under very hard conditions in a dragster. The problem that we are still working on is that the fuel pump has the mechanical means to fuel as much as the in-line pump on the 12 valves. However the Dodge controller has limits built in them, so we needed to find a way to communicate with the Cummins controller. On the side of the engine, this is the Cummins ECM, the job of this controller is to make the timing corrections to fuel delivery. The pump also has a controller on it that is in control of the engine as far as where the crank shaft is, the cam, and fuel needed with boost and vehicle speed. This is just the start, the dodge PCM on the firewall of the truck tells the limits that it wants or should I say the condition or playing field that the Cummins controller has to play in. The VR6 is a much better pump and the fuel and timing curves are the best that I've ever seen. The pump dropped one full second off of my times. Mid range and top end was the best. It comes on real strong. This pump is much better than a VP44, however to run it in normal driving the boost also has to be matched along with the fuel injectors. This changes the horsepower above the rated 275HP that Cummins uses for trucks and motor homes. This pump would most likely be used on a military application? Bosch will not comment on this pump as of yet. However it has been sent back for some more work and than I will re-test it again. As more testing is done we can reproduce this pump as time goes on. The fuel injection shops don't have the testing equipment as of yet nor the parts to take them apart. We have also just came up with a new turbo charger that will almost eliminate the bottom end lag and the smoke that comes with injectors and fuel chips. The turbo is being tested on my truck as we speak. It's the most boost in a short time with lots of power, lower heat and almost no smoke. The product will be ready for the general market in about ten days. We wanted to find a way to clean up the smoke and the turbo lag up and it works!!!!

Don Ramer

Might this turbo work on a 12 v? Is it similar to Piers's turbo, with a bigger compressor wheel or what? Thanks much, as I am nearing new trubo time as I don't think I want to just put a different turbine housing on because there are better things to do- just get a new turbo now instead of wasting money on half-uprades. What hp level is it good for? Thanks again.

I heard that the guy with the dragster now runs a P-Pump instead of the vr6 pump. I now after driving in a 24 valve truck that has a properly set-up P-Pump from Diesel Dynamics there's no going back. I drove in Lawrences truck and it was simply unreal. The power was not only great but the acceleration was also smooth. Lawrences truck then made 600+ hp and all he could say was how poorly it was running. Sure made me feel stupid cause I was just about to tell him that's how I wanted mine.

The engine has four out of the six melted. Your on track it,s heat from massive overfuel that boiled the coolant if you want more info let us know. ATS

Anyone need 100psi of Boost?

CAnderson (& others),

if your thinking about a new turbo, you might want to give Don Ramer a call regarding his new custom manufactured TE40H turbo. It sounds pretty exciting & its more than worth your time to talk these guys.

Here's an email notification I just recieved from ATS:

Just wanted to inform the general the market that we have a new custom set of turbo chargers for all applications. We offer a new very sweet single turbo that takes the place of the HX40. This turbo charger spools up almost three times faster and is handling the heat. The new turbo is custom manufactured by us and it's new model number is TE40H. This turbo can be used with 3 ½" down pipe or a 4" down pipe which gives the ability to us a direct exhaust brake. This product almost eliminates most of the low-end lag & smoke. It's currently on a 2001 24 valve & also it will be sent to Cummins for extra testing. Also want to let all know that we also offer a twin compound turbo set up also for the 12 & 24 valve 65psi to 100 plus pounds of boost. To give all of the diesel heads something to ponder is that we need to remember that higher the boost pressure the lower the exhaust heat gets. Well enough of that I wanted to send you an overview of the company that will help all of the scuttlebutt of our company and what we do. Please let all of the people know we don't want to be involved in this negativity AT ALL.

Let’s take a moment and discuss some of the products that ATS is working on and making improvements. The Dodge truck was just one of the products that we wanted to make some positive changes with. The transmissions torque converter has had some weak spots that have needed some work.

The beginning of the work on this converter was efficiency of the torque ranges and the lockup surfaces along with the lining compounds. We know that the friction needed some thing better than the paper mainly for longevity to withstand heat. The paper friction could not stand slipping for very long we brought out some better lining compounds that can with stand better chances of slipping but yet still offer good feel under lockup conditions like paper can.

The next thing was to make better stall ranges for higher horsepower conditions using many different stator combination the angle ramping and number of blades that our custom stator can use. This makes custom benefits for any truck and the numerous applications. This offers long term towing and engine braking with shifting under torque & Load. This gave us the ability to offer a torque converter that works well and can be adjusted to any truck high horse power or stock.

This gives Automotive Transmission Specialists the ability of offering a better product and warranty to the general public. This type of product we offer for Dodge, Ford, GM and others. Our product line includes heavy duty towing stock applications and full out racing for the very high horse power and torque. In doing this with the torque converters we also made some changes in the transmissions to give them the cutting edge technology for all applications.

We wanted a better product that could work for the general public the government, law enforcement services Ect. Leading on with the performance of the diesel market making fuel and air changes was also the topic. The market that we live in just happens to be one of the hardest tests on vehicles.

The diesels have to be set up very well in order to survive the long haul since we live in the Colorado Mountains with altitudes above 5,280ft the ongoing progress has lead us to making better turbo chargers fuel system upgrades and other modifications for lower heat better performance less smoke and maintain power. The best part of the diesel engine is that higher the boost the lower the exhaust temps gets. When fuel is increased along with boost than it all moves in a forward direction this can offer better performance without heavy smoke, heat and damage to the engine. So within these ranges is how we offer our custom packages.

Automotive Transmission Specialist offers the staged power package that works for what the application needs to be. We offer our own turbo chargers fuel system packages exhaust systems drive train repair and custom manual transmission repair and custom services. We specialize in the entire drive train components and fabrication for the heavy-duty vehicles including duel axle trucks motor homes along with all makes and models of cars.

We manufacture and remanufacture torque converters with transmissions. The transmissions follow some of the best quality controls such has on site Dynamometer testing. The diesel torque converters consist of 13” billet steel covers wide carbon clutches & custom stator designs that meet warranties of three year 65,000 mile parts and labor.

We also offer custom gearing for differentials along with custom lockers and limited slips. Suspension upgrades with full state of the art electronic testing and repair for all late model vehicles. We perform all out racing products such as blowers, custom injection systems and services such as Gear Venders, US Gear over & under drives and exhaust brakes of all manufactures. Custom fuel injection pumps and the use of all quality Bosch, Cummins, International parts with manufacture support.

Auto Trans Is A Performance Company.

Not sure what the "scuttlebutt" is per se but one can only imagine. In my short time (1. 5year) as a TDR member, I have seen some total misinformation represented on this site by a few so called "experts". I have also seen many more positive things here. Fortunately the positive ones still outweigh the negative ones. All I can say is that I was impressed with the knowledge that the crew over at ATS has. They treated me right, so I'd bet they would treat you right too.

I happened to stop by Diesel Dynamics today. They had a VR6 pump sitting on the bench. The label on the top said Bosch and for competition use only.

Oh Fine!

I guess you'll be rippin' that bulbous "P" pump monstrosity off then eh Joseph??? Think about it, an electronic camplate, what a concept!!!

No danger of that happening, HVAC. That P pump is staying where it was intended to be, right on Old Sickly. :D

Check out www.dieseldynamics.com because they have dyno results with the V6 pump. Anoher highly touted waste of money, imho.

If you want real fueling, ya still gotta love that P7100 :p

Lawrence knows. He has one on his '01 Ram. 'Course Mark Flinn at DD ain't doing too bad, broke over 500 hp the other day with the sea of electrons on his Ram.

Joe,

Thanks for posting the link, I had been wondering about this pump good thing that I didn't get my hopes up. I figured that it was all talk, I guess now there's proof. Have you heard anything about Lawrences new project yet. I'm getting excited. :D :D :D

hehe, how about a "secondary ECM"

HMmmmm looking at the DD VR6 curves, it sure would be cool to extend the 1000 Ft*lbf at 2400 from the VP44 out to 3000RPM with some ECM tweaking etc. and the VR6, and then start defueling out to 3500 rpm

571hp would be just dandy... possibly even a little more.
