DuraMax glows at night!

Well, it looks like I won't be building a bike... . trike is more feasible at this point.

Any idea how people get them inspected if the frame and everything else is all custom made?

trike? nah.

most people don't get them inspected. my dad just did for this year which he hasn't done since like '92. ah well.

how about getting your truck with a straight piped stack inspected?:D

Tom: The truck got a fresh new inspection sticker last Friday afternoon. Dad took it down for me... . it passed with flying colors with the noisy stack and everything.

The inspection guy asked Dad: "What the heck did he do to this thing?!... it sounds mean!" :-laf

Hey Matt, another source for a transmission could be something out of a late 60's early 70's Oldsmobile Tornado. They had mean 455 ci Olds big blocks and were front wheel drive. That would mean that they could possibly have a set up to support the belt drive on one side. It's been a long time since I saw one, but the picture you posted further up in the thread reminds me of them. They could probably be had for a $100. 00 or less, and it would be a turbo 400. Just a random thought... .....

Cool... . thanks for the info.

I was thinking of making a FWD transaxle work out somehow... . I'd probably have to put a spool in it or weld the spider gears - otherwise I would go nowhere, fast! :)

I'll check out that roadog.com site... . it has to be interesting!

Matt

How about the drive train out of a ford Taruas SHO? It's a yamaha V6 with a 5 speed manual transaxle. It makes wicked power wide open. Just weld the diff gears and put a belt drive on 'er!

Please post pics when this thing is on the road!

Somthing like an old VW bug drivetrain or a Chevy Corvair drivetrain set-up may be the trick. Smaller and probably lighter than the toronado. Just gotta figure out how to make things go the right direction since the motor was on the back side of these.

Frames

You can buy the frame and frontend for the above trike for around $6500. 00. This is for any small block V-8 and matching auto. They said they would build frame for anything, were looking at V-8 detroit match when I last talked to em. They are always willing to experiment. Can get you a price list if you want one for standard small block. :D

CF: Which trike are you talking about?

I really want to make it a diesel..... and definitely NOT F*rd or Yamaha powered... . not that it woudn't be cool, but I like to smoke people out with ALL of my vehicles.

Picture on page #2

I am sure they would think about a 5. 9, but be kinda rough looking over the top of it? They told me "anything goes, cash talks".

All kidding aside a small block is plenty big for a trike. The one I rode had a 327 Chevy, with minor mods, and it would pin your a$$ to the seat! 0-100 in just a few seconds. They handle solid, the frontend stays down at full throttle, very little lift. The rearend can get squirrely on dirt, but on pavement rock solid with very little spin, just GO... . Oo.

Oh, okay...

So they'll build a chassis to fit any engine for $6000?

I could buy a lot of DOM tube for $6k... . :)

What I lack is the expertise of spec-ing a trike - I have all the tools to make one.

I could even use an existing drivetrain that I own - '90 Plymouth Voyager with auto transaxle -- 2. 5L Turbo II with worked over head, big turbo, etc. - nah... that's not a diesel.

Matt

Sure

I am sure a frame for a Cummins or any diesel would be more. The frames and frontend for any small block V-8 are around $6000 to 7000. There turnkey rigs are around 23k to 29k, depending on what you want. They have been at it for a number of years with a solid rep. :D
