Friends,

Worked in new RV during the past bad weather events doing happy to glad things like replacing cheesey RV exhaust fan in bathroom with Fantastic Fan, adding sound bars to the bedroom and livingroom TVs, and loading this beast. BIL coming over this weekend, so might show him available space for him to fabricate an auxiliary fuel tank. OEM tank is 70 gallons so my calculations, there's good space in the DEF bay on driver's side and good space in the propane tank and RV batteries bay on the passenger side. I'm thinking 50 gallons works. With the 8K Onan diesel genset and the solar panels, my DW suggested we start doing off grid camping, which sounds like fun. We're hoping on going to Kerrville TX for a few days in mid March... there's some 7% grades out there I'd like to try out.

I found the build sheet on my Durastar: rear springs and axle 19K pounds and front axle is 10Klbs. I also found International and Freightliner use the Allison 2000 series trans heavily in the school bus and delivery van markets. The Allison 2500 is in its 5th generation, so been around a long time and likely will be around a lot longer. I really like that the Allison has an external spin on filter and drain plug... no need to pull the pan on fluid changes.

The last of my filters came in yesterday... got two of everything including the Fleetguard Nano fuel filter. Happily, this Cummins 6.7L uses same oil filters as the Rams. The genset has it's own separate water fuel separator/fuel filter, so gotta get the filter number for it and oil air filters for it.

EDIT: Didn't want to write a separate post to say looks like oil capacity is 15 quarts, about 3 quarts more than our Rams.

Cheers and Happy Trails, Ron

Didn't you put that crazy roof on you DRV? how did that work out ? Nice MH by the way.

I did put Crazy Seal on and it was amazing. Lots of work, but well worth it IMHO. Thanks for the compliment. Was going to take it today to get EB programmed and switch installed, but strained my back, so will mostly be in bed the next 2 or 3 days. MAJOR BUMMER!

Cheers, Ron

Ron, Once again you have forgotten about your health and in bed resting until next weekend sausage feed hmm!;)

Thanks for caring.... My back is weird. simple reach and slight twist did it for me on Friday installing second satellite dish with quick disconnect on the roof. Heck, I can strain my back sneezing or coughing.

Motion satellite supports two receivers, but restricts second receiver from watching anything but the channels available that the primary receiver (the controlling one) is watching. That's why you see many times high end busses with multiple in motion satellites. Some have the dual LNB dishes, but they can only deploy when stationary. Had the extra dish from former 5th wheel when trees or other obstacles blocked roof mounted dish.

Anyhoo, might be going today to get a pain shot to get ahead of the pain. Severe stenosis no fun.

Cheers. Ron

Duh - don't sneeze or cough!

I still have to be very careful even after back surgery.

I'm back on the hoss... about 80%... stayed in bed Wednesday with powerful meds and got better.

Finished installing coax switch for the 3 TVs, HDMIs for BlueRay DVD and Wally satellite receiver, 120W soundbar with sub, and wireless headphones. Just got to button it up.

Next, same treatment in the bedroom.

Cheers and here's to keeping those backs functioning. Ron

Friends,

Enjoying camping on the Frio River, Concan TX. MH handled great, flat towed Jeep just fine, and just enjoying the good life. Here's pic of rig at a favorite eatery.

Good looking rig, ENJOY!!

Thanks!

All,

I'm impressed with this setup... it performs very similarly to my 2017 Ram 5500, much as expected. Biggest plus is this accelerated well getting on Interstates and into traffic. It handles curves about the same as former Mobile Suites... to be expected slow and easy. Jeep tows great... hooks up and unhooks fast and easy.

We really like the layout and quality of the RV portion of the unit... perfect for two. DW likes it most, so got the real critic satisfied. Fun riding above everyone. Still got to wire and install CB/weather radio and that should be it.

Will post more as we gather more experience and observations.

Cheers, Ron

I wanna go camping!!!! WHAAAA! Maybe later in the summer.

GUTSY!! If I took that picture it never would have been seen by anyone. I would have dropped the camera and it would have bounced into the water - never to have been seen or heard from again. If it don't float - I don't take it into a canoe. I float just fine, so I'm ok. I've found that any object of value doesn't float!

Dan,

It's my phone camera and I'd have to pay them to take it...still werks though. This canoe has a waterproof compartment for wallets, phones, keys, samiches, wine, etc. We have a little trolling motor we use too. Got paddles in case we have a problem:p. Got it at Sam's Club in 2000 for about $400 and been great fun, very wide and stable. We only use it any more on shallow rivers, creeks, slow moving water. It's still fun to bring to lots of places in TX and it's easy to load onto the Jeep. Funny, in all the years of having it, never dropped anything into the water, capsized it, or fell into the water, but now that I've bragged:eek:...

Are you starting to pack for camping yet?

Cheers, Ron
