1999 163 k rasp and carter backup set up for fuel system.A couple years ago moved the brass pressure regulator from bottom of fuel filter to the top side of the engine for easier access. Runs 17-19 lbs normal. I carry a spare one in a small jar behind the seat so when I get a very small piece of dirt in it and my fuel pressure goes down in can do a pretty quick and simple road side change out. I change the fuel filter pretty regular and try to use the best and cleanest fuel available. At 163 k I probably should drop the tank and clean it out but what a pain. So recently I’m getting a bouncy fuel pressure gauge. Like 9 to 21 lbs. comes and goes then goes away back to normal 17-19 lbs. Sooo what do you think is the VP 44 going bad ??? It’s been on there a long time now. What do you think??

I doubt it is the VP as I never heard of those symptoms. I would look more at a delivery problem, regulator or worst case rasp

Is your gauge a manual or electric? If it is electric, the sending unit can cause erratic pressure readings when they start to go bad. If the gauge needle is vibrating and you hear a buzzing noise, you might try a needle valve in the line.

Good idea about taking my Manuel pressure gauge hooking it up on the fuel filter top and running it thru the window to see if the electric gauge is going bad
