Which Cam for towing?

Just been thinking recently about getting a brake controller installed on my truck. I dont tow very often, but it would be nice to have, heck, I've got a CTD for god's sake! It would be nice, never know when a weekend job for a friend could happen upon me, it would stink to miss out on some $$ because I dont have brakes. Question is, how obtrusive is one of these things in the cab? I am not too certain on these things, what other sorts of things should I/should I not fall for when I am at the trailer place buying one? I have a factory installed trailer hitch, no WD or anything like that. Thanks for any info.

If you have the trailer package then all you have to do is attach the pig tail to the brake controller and plug the pig tail into the socket near the Parking brake peddle and mount the brake controller. I have a Prodigy that I just installed because the other controller I bought for the last truck did not work. the only problem I have had with it is when I for get about the brake controller I hit it with my knee getting in and out of the truck.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I am not sure if I have the trailer tow package or not, looks like I'll have to go to the dealer with my VIN. I do however, have 2 small holes drilled into my dash on the shifter side of the steering wheel, on the knee bolster. Could this be the previous location of a brake controller, or are there any of those downloaders that can go there?

The simplest way to know if you have a Trailer tow package is to check to see if you have fuses installed in the fuse panel for the trailer light circuit... . the wiring harness is already in the truck... . all they do is install a hitch... . put the fuses in the fuse box and give you the pigtail mentioned above... In some cases the trailer tow package is dealer installed... or can come from the factory... .

You need the brake controller where you can reach it with your hands if necessary when driving... ...

next to the steering column on the bottom side of the dash. Not an 'obtrusive' spot and easy to reach in case needed for some additional or faster braking :)

Switched from a Tekonsha Voyager to a Prodigy and have been happy with the results :)

Went to my dealer today, gave them my VIN, and yay! I do have the trailer tow pkg, (as well as snow plow prep). So I guess I will call the trailer dealer to get an install. Thanks a bunch.
