Brake Controller

I'm sure there are posts about this, but I can't seem to find them.



I have a Kelsey brake controller right now. I don't like it at all. Set it and push the brakes and it's fine. Next time trailer tires are locking up... next time, almost no trailer brakes.



Is this the controller you guys recomend:

I use to have a Kelsey brake controller a long time ago & I had the same problem. I have had the Prodigy for the last 2 years & never had any problems. I set it two years ago & nerver have had to reset it & I do a lot of trailer towing. My son has the Prodigy on his Tahoe & likes it also. The price looks good also. Good luck.

I've got the Jordan Ultima - ordered it from the same website you posted. The best controller I've had (although some will chime in and say Brakesmart is better).



The Jordan attaches to the brake pedal via a cable. So you get trailer brake force proportional to the tow vehicle brake force. I've set mine up once and haven't touched it since.



The Brakesmart is also proportional, but taps into the brake hyd system to measure tow veh brake force. It's also reported to be good, but about 3X the $$$.

Yeah the Brakesmart looks nice, but that is alot of money for a controller. The Jordan is much more affordable.

The brakesmart handsdown. It is worth every penny if you tow heavy or tow often. I have installed them in 4 trucks and will never buy anything else. the only thing i dont like is that DR P now owns brakesmart. I hate sending my money to DR P but the brakesmart is just too dang good.

You cannot go wrong with the Prodigy. It is by far the simplest to install too.



The Jordan Ultima is the ticket right now if you want a higher end controller. A little more complicated to install.



The Brakesmart is the best by far and is the only true proportional controller available for light duty trucks. But,... ... . Good luck getting one. You will probably be on the end of a very wrong waiting list!!



I have the Prodigy and I am upgrading to the Ultima due to a long wait for the Brakesmart.



Be sure to keep all your paperwork if you get the Prodigy. They do have some weird malfunctions sometimes and I actually already had to replace one. Still a damn good controller though. If the Ultima was not around... ... . I would probably be sticking with the Prodigy.



FYI... ... . I pull a 17,000 + lb. fifth wheel... ... .

Yeah I don't tow very heavy or alot, so I can't really justify the Brakesmart. It looks like it works great, but it's totally out of my price range. I'm looking for something no more than $100-125, just to get rid of the craptacular Kelsey one I have.

Have the Prodigy, and it came pre-wired with the Dodge wiring harness making it an easy plug in deal.

Is anyone hear using with good results? If so, what are the results and how heavy do they pull?

Now would be a good time since I just removed my old brake controller (today).

Nate - the downside of a Prodigy is that you have to build deceleration forces before the controller begins to apply braking to the trailer. On slick roads during a panic stop that may put the trailer out ahead of you.



With the Jordan, as soon as you push the brake pedal the trailer is getting its brakes applied too.
